There is no cut and dry, yes or no answer. I've always said we should do it like Pa. and limit the number of people doing a drive. The clubs are getting way out of hand with the numbers. But I attribute that to having no where to hunt anymore. Guys are turning to clubs, low dues, and land to hunt just so they can hunt. Its a no brainer if your just a gun hunter. Why pay a couple thousand to lease property just to hunt a few days?

Its not the way I like to hunt deer, but people dont like a lot of ways I do things either.

This link was sent to me by a friend who belongs to a club, there sole existence is based on doing drives all of buck week. I dont know if there is more to this survey agenda but they seem really concerned that driving could be banned. Anyone else have more info on this? I dont care either way but just think of all the trespassing that would not occur if it were banned. Trespassers do seem a bit more brazen when there are twenty of them.

I'm not part of a "group or a club" I hunt alone . I stopped hunting during the 6 day on public land because groups of hunters would drive the place from legal light on opening morning and then another group at mid morning and another group in the afternoon. This went on all week. Screw that! Let them do drives the last afternoon of the 6 day on public land.

You are right, but judging from the comments posted (which is what I was referring to) people seem to want to ban drives on Public land only. IF that were to happen, imagine the trespassing that would occur. (Not that it already doesn't)

In all the years I have been hunting the pines I have to say I have never had a bad run in with a driving club. I will say I have had bad run ins with other stand hunters.

I didn't have time to read many comments here, but I do know from talking to at least one F&G Council member and one Division biologist that this is about collecting information, not banning anything outright. The council and Division recognizes that this is a hot topic and is different even between the north and south sections of the state. I do think we'll see changes coming or recommended for the next Game Code, but I don't think anyone is looking at an "all or nothing" ban on deer drives. Just my two cents after talking to some in the know.

I've participated in deer drives. Deer drives have their place. I've never done drives at the beginning of any season. It's a crowded state with crowded land so things are going to be tough all over.

Having said that, is there any problem with me standing in front of you come trout season at 7:55 am after you have found a spot. Clearly, it's a public spot but I am referring to the the "sportsmanship" involved in not crawling up someone's rear end in order to get into the same drift. There are reasons that a lot of people prefer to bow hunt and this is one of them. So why is it, come gun season, it's cool to go trouncing through the woods with a bunch of guys having just walked out of the diner stinking of cigarettes, gasoline and their own stench and assume that the deer in the area are just as likely to come back. I wouldn't screw another fisherman over, set up a stand next to some other guy nor trounce an area I know is likely to have guys set up in it.

Because of the fact that it is "legal" to do doesn't make it "sportsman-like" to the other guys in the woods. Let me take a spinner and start casting over the fly fishing guys because it's legal. Let me take a spinner, find a crowded hole and start casting over everyone with bait at 8:01 AM in a couple weeks because it is legal.

What is the worst thing that couple happen by waiting until later in the week or waiting until permit season? I am not asking about your "rights" as a hunter because "rights" change as the law changes. You have the right to bow hunt and not get shot at by gun hunters during bow season. What would be wrong with organized drives like we are talking about in terms of size being put off beyond opening day and possibly Saturday when the greatest # of hunters are expected to be on-stand?
you must compare apples to apples, i dont believe someone to close or casting over you in a 10 foot wide trout stream is the same as you sitting in the woods in a 500+ acre wildlife mgnt area or state park. again i cant stress enough scout the pressure, expect it! where i hunt in ringwood state park . i deal with people walking dogs off leash running loose , mountain bikers screaming and yelling to one another, not to mention trailblazing new runs across some of the best ridge saddles and funnels. other hunters placeing bait piles all over the place, kids rideing quads all over, etc etc a deer drive is not a problem! i can walk into the woods in ringwood and come out in oakland, mahwah, wanaque, or westmilford, iam sure a few drives in a four town radius isnt blowing the woods out. learn the groups and crews that do them and use it to an advantage! we must not divide ourselves the antis will do it for us

As far as I'm concerned, dividing bow and gun hunters is no different then dividing drivers and "pot" or stationary hunters. We are together in the factthat we all like hunting but for me, drivers force themselves onto other hunters and not the other way around. Again, I'm not advocation an outright ban but rather it has its own place in the season.

you do understand that people do drives during all the seasons, plenty of guys push during muzzy, even know a few who drive winter bow, done right drives are a safe effective method, if its not your thing dont do it, and why is you walking in, setting up, putting your noises and scent into the woods not forcing yourself upon other hunters ?

We must not divide ourselves you say? Why is it everytime 6 day is on the horizon we have to remove all of our cameras and lockup or remove our tree stands from the woods? Because the inconsiderate slobs that 6 day brings out will remove or break them. These are the same guys who have no problem pulling into a crowded parking lot at a WMA at 8am on opening day and drive the place out, they could give two craps about the man who burned one of his few vacation days to take his 12 year old kid into the tree on opening day with hopes of a good hunt.

I think deer drives suck and bring out the worst of all that may call themselves hunters. I've had nothing but bad experiences and they trash the woods. Since these slobs can't police themselves I voted to ban them. I'm not however under the illusion that my vote counts for anything.

why is you walking in said:
The difference is that if I notice someone I will back out, take a wife berth or otherwise find a different area all together whereas drivers, in order to stick to their plans and remain safe within the confines of their own plan, must walk right over top of another hunter in a stand or blind.

and how many 12 year old kids got there first buck because dad knew that a lot of people would come in from that parking lot, and was sure to come in from the backside of the swamp or steep ridge the bucks would run to! it works both ways as far as guy tresspassing thats not hunting thats poaching. as far as guy stealing it happens all seasaon not just gun season. its just wrong and those are thieves not hunters. its simple dont wont your gear taken on state land, dont leave it there! i see 100's of $ worth of stuff all over the woods some for years at a time ! i dont touch it,nobody should touch it , but they do ! would you leave a 100$ bill stapled to a tree
