Why would they destroy 114,000 brookies? Are they contaminated in some way or have a fish virus????? Makes absolutely no sense to kill perfectly good trout with all the streams and rivers we have here in NJ. I don't Approve of this misuse of my tax dollards either! My hunting/fishing/permit/stamp/license monies go to to wildlife management, bird rearing, trout rearing, pheasant stocking, and NJDEP/ NJDWFG funding. So without my/our permission, I think they are killing my/our trout, dont you? Heck, we paid for them, at least let us determine what to do with them! Just my opinion, but this makes me very angry!
Any chance you can do 30 seconds of research on this topic before posting another rant? It might just save you the time of posting something so uninformed and looking ridiculous when you see why this had to be done.

Research would be good, yes. I assumed( dangerous obviously) that the original poster of that comment had left it out or there was no reason. That's why in the onset of my post, the question is asked " Are they contaminated in some way or have a fish virus ?" No answer to that, just bust my balls about my thread response. No, I did not read any recent reports explaining a virus that had entered the fish's raceway and made them sick. Regardless of whether its and aviary virus or other type, if it would be harmful for other trout/fish in the river or harmful for us to eat I understand why they need to be destroyed. If in fact they were being destroyed for a rediculous reason, then I stand behind what I said about wasting dollars. I don't mind spending money, but I do mind when it's wasted on nonsensical things. Sportsmen pay for a lot in this state. I feel that any negative impact on them or their dollars in unacceptable, that's all. For those of you who felt the need to bust my balls, glad you had your moment in the sun!

Uninformed can be any one of us at any given time or on any given topic...instead of becoming angry, become an educator and inform those who don't have the information you do. It makes the uninformed informed in on something they didn't know, and it makes the idiocy of the angry replies morph into a logical explanation on what, why, etc. Glad we don't allow witch hunts anymore.... one gray area statement on NJH and you're burned! Whew!

It isn't you 358. this topic has been gone over and over and over . Just so everyone is crystal clear on this subject......... THE KILLING OF THESE FISH, AND THE DECISION NOT TO STOCK THEM HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH HUMAN CONSUMPTION. IT HAS EVERYTHING TO DO WITH PERSERVING FUTURE FISH STOCKS IN OUR WATERS. If you have eaten a trout from NJ waters in the past 30 years, it is entirely likely that you have consumed the virus infested meat already. It is absolutely nothing new to our waters. It just doesn't show signs in the carriers until they are in a stressful situation such as a hatchery runway. It is the same way some people with hives have breakouts during times of high stress. the reason the division is destroying these fish is because they have the physical sores on the skin that if they came in contact with other fish they would pass it on. Without the sores the fish will not pass it on to others. Our division works there asses off for us and I hate to see them bashed for going above and beyond. I suppose many of you have never lived out of state and experienced how other divisions work. I hunt and fish 4 other states and hands down our F&G is the best. Do yourself a favor pass on the 40 dollar pheasant stamp and hunt in Pa for a year on public lands. Come back and compare your 5 bids to my 50. Go fish NYs "Famed" trout waters for a month and compare your catch ratio to 1 week on a NJ trout stream. Sit in a PA treestand for a month straight and compare the number of deer seen to 3 days in a stand here. I love our hunting and fishing opportunities we have here and I am thankful that I get my hard earned monies worth every time I venture into the NJ outdoors.

Don't take it personally. It's just that there are so many posts on NJH already that fully explain anything and everything you would would ever care to know about this disease at Pequest already. That is likely why you got the responses you did. Look at the two new ones today alone, all covering the same topics. I'm not one that likes to see heavy moderation of a site when it comes to member's responses, but the moderators could do a better job of combining duplicate posts which would be of great benefit with issues like this. Just my two cents.

If they combined duplicate threads there would be no NJH. At least 75% of the posts on here have been posted before.
