So my daughter passed her hunters ed a few weeks back and I've been traveling for work so I haven't had a chance to got to Dicks with her to get the official license. Well we went last night and this REALLY happened. So the guy is checking us out and entering in all the info and he's trying to figure out how much it is. So I said, it's free for the youth license. He argues with me for a few minutes and then finally relents when he finds it on his handy dandy card. Then he proceeds to tell me it's good until 12/31/14 and I say actually it's good until 12/31/16...same thing ensues, same result.
Then the classic of all classics. Ashley asked me if this was just her license or if it there were permits also. I told her it was a firearms and bow license (youth of course) which also had a pheasant stamp blah blah blah. This clown break in and says, "yes, honey, your dad is right and it's important to know the difference between a license and a permit." I'm thinking I can't wait for this train wreck of an explanation. He continued, "you see a license means you know how to handle a gun and a permit means you're allowed to hunt on somebody else's property." Ashley looks up at me like, you gotta be friggin' kidding me right? She proceeded to explain to him what license and permit was in the hunting world. Glad she paid attention in class!
