My Brittney is 15 months old and suffers from sensitive stomach. I have fed him all the name brands dog food's without to much success. He is presently on Blue Sensitive Stomach, 22% protein, $54.00 for 35 pound bag. I have first fed him it to him with a pro biotic until he refused to eat. Then switched to a table spoon of plain yogurt with his food with some success. Now he refuses to eat the food with the yogurt. Without the yogurt the dog passes unbearable gas. Any advise would be greatly appreciated.

Blue is rich even with their sensitive version. One of my dogs also has a rough time with the good stuff so i feed him Avoderm. It immediately made him stop having gas and firmed up his stool to the proper consistency. I feed my other two mutts blue buffalo wilderness.

Have you tried Pedigree? My Shepard mix suffered major pancreas problems (from pigs ears) and couldn't handle anything with beef. Pedigree Healthy Longevity dry with a fork of chopped chicken can and she lived to the ripe age of 17 and would have kept going except for her hips giving out. My Jack Russell is on the same food and he will be 16 in April. Definitely a Pedigree fan here.

If you haven't tried it yet Purina Pro Plan Select has given me success with a few Pointers in the past with sensitive stomach's. Can also slice up a hard boiled egg and add to the food. Like I said I've had success with this in the past. Also, your Brittany will most likely outgrow the digestive issues. Another alternative is to go with straight beef or venison if you have any available. 1/2 the servings can be raw and the other 1/2 cooked.

As odd as this may sound, add a half teaspoon of Apple cider vinegar to the dogs daily water for about a week and see if it makes a difference. It supposedly helps aid the good bacteria in breaking down the food. I had bad digestion and my wife suggested I try it and what a difference! I looked it up and sure enough it works for dogs.

BTW-anyone taking acid reducers, Prilosec, etc. should give it a try. 1/2 teaspoon in a glass of water each night. Tastes like crap but really works!

To answer your question...Orijen. It's probably the highest protein food out there. There are 2 down side...at least for me.

1. IT'S EXPENSIVE!!! $85.00 for a 30# bag. But that's a small price to pay, since I love the results.

2. Because it's such a high protein food, it doesn't take much for them to be healthy. As a result, the dog will "seem" hungry, but definitely isn't starving. And with such a high protein food, if they aren't using it, they will get fat FAST! I've experimented with a few options to help Gunnar feel "satisfied" after eating. I have spoke to many trainers, as well as, a few vets. One solution I found that works pretty well (it's does have it bad effects too) is to allow the food to re-hydrate a little before allowing him to eat. This starts the swelling process and in turn causes him to feel full after eating. The down side is that dry kibble is also has teeth cleaning properties. To off set this, a chewy is given to him daily to help keep his teeth and gums healthy. After owning a few dogs, I have never brushed their teeth or gums, and they have never had bad "Dog Breath".

I have had troubles with food for my weim, Gunnar. Started on Innova, moved to ProPlan Performance, then tried Taste of the Wild (grain-free), and finally ended on Orijen. By far Orijen has had the best outcome for Gunnar.

As for you other concern...the gas, check with a vet. Could be allergies, or just a sensitive stomach. My Doberman had a very sensitive stomach, and after 20+ foods...Eukanuba Performace was the only one he didn't have a problem with.

This is just my personal experience, check with your vet if you need real answers about your dog and their situation.

I feed my hunting puppy taste of the wild. the blue buffalo gave him soft poo and a smelly ass..to bad the only thing he hunts is baby diapers out of the garbage can..and if my wife cooks meat or chicken with no added flavoring, we chunk it up and mix it with the dry food...he also likes eggs and carrots. he now has zero gas and normal poop. so im sticking with what works. good luck there is a lot to choose from
