Hi guys, i just got my trapping license this year and had a question about weasel boxes with a rat trap in them. I know that you can't use body gripping/killer traps out of water, but I thought at the course I heard one instructor say that weasel boxes with the rat trap was allowed. Just wondering if that was the case. Thanks for you help.

I don't know anything about them, but my new insult is "weasel box".. "Hey, you weasel box, shut up!"

Don't hold me to it but pretty sure it's legal on your own property don't know if it would be legal else were because it's not a listed trap call law enforcement and ask them if you do post the result I'd be curious to the answer

I made 2 of these last year, made them with the rat trap inside but like u wasn't sure if I could use it. I made mine so when he stepped on the little pan in the back it would seal the hole up. I used fresh chicken livers and replaced them frequently so they wouldn't freeze. I caught 1 but the flaw in my trap was when I opened the top the little bastard came flying out ( yes pop goes the weasel) and ran up my leg and leaped and was gone haha. What a dance I did!!!

Thanks for the reply OneShot, did you use them a lot throughout the season or just a few times and give up? CJoutdoors i am in central jersey near 195. I wouldn't say I have seen any or any sign for that matter but am willing to drive and want to keep my options open. I got my license right before the season and was kind of late to get into it this year with trying to buy supplies and work as well. I am going to be doing a lot of scouting this upcoming year, and reading and watching videos. I just was curious because it seems interesting and would at least like to give it a shot, especially if it is something different than a lot of guys try.

Im in the same area and i havent seen any sign or one in over 20 years. My dad used to catch a few yearss ago when leg hold trapping was legal. Why are you thinking of catching them? You are not going to get many if any and they are not worth much at all. Better off trying for mink, not tons of them around us but one is worth more than the amount of weasels you are going to catch in the next ten years. **** would be the best thing to start out trapping. They are every wheres and easy to catch.

Yea I got some **** this year. Reason I want to try for them is to at least try for the experience. Part of the reason why I wanted to trap was for the experience, I've had a blast this year so far and would like to at least say i tried and hopefully could at least catch one. I'm not looking for the money, want to have a good time, become a better woodsman, and gain different experiences
