I am all in for any attempt! I am also quietly (not so quietly now) trying to get my CCW
I am willing to spend a few bucks on an attorney to get it for the principal of it.
I was told not to even try until something like a court case or new law opens a door to where it may be at least possible. The rational was that if (and when) your denied you would then have to answer 'Yes' on the form for all firearm purchases in the section where you are asked if you were ever denied. Don't know how accurate that advice was but it was an attorney who told me.

If there's anyone out there with any knowledge on this matter, any input would be appreciated!

I wonder why he would say that? Unless the underlying cause for your carry permit denial was a disability against firearms purchase ..... criminal record, mental health, etc .... a past denial is not a disability/cause for denial.

He was implying that even though there is absolutely no reason for me to be denied, in NJ unless you can show a 'Justifiable Need' you will be rejected. This goes across the board, regardless of your training or background. His point was that if I apply and most certainly are denied (since no one in NJ ever has shown a Justifiable Need which meets the states requirement), that then every future purchase I make I would have to answer Yes to the question on the form during the purchase. This will most certailny lead to delays and hassles when making the purchase and NICS will almost never be instant.

Because once you're denied for a CCW application, you then need to answer "yes" to question "Have you ever had a FPID, hand gun permit, permit to carry or any other firearms license refused or revoked in NJ or any other state" on every future firearm application (see question # 27). And being denied a CCW application by a judge would be a valid reason for your local police chief to deny a firearms purchase id card or handgun permit application.

No it is not a valid reason. You're asked to explain it.

I received my initial FPID card and my subsequent handgun purchase permits listing my previous denial (due to criminal record) on each application.

Being denied a carry permit because you did not show a need, which is the "May Issue" BS we are forced to put up with in this state, is not a disability against firearm ownership. Being denied of a carry permit because of criminal record, mental health issues, etc ....

Whether or not you're issued a FPID or a handgun permit is up to the local police chief in your municipality. If the local police chief denies your permit (even for what we would consider an invalid reason), you would need to go to court within 30 days to appeal. Applying for a CCW that you know will be denied and then answering "yes" to "have you ever been denied a firearms application" on every future firearms application (including out of state ccw's if you move or just want a permit for that state) is not worth it to me. Maybe you have $4k to waste on a lawyer and don't mind chance of being denied, but most of us don't feel the same way.

I'm only trying to be helpful here ..... through my own experiences, and those of others.

I was told the same bs by people who don't know what they're talking about. I was also told by similar people that expungement was complicated and that I needed to pay a lawyer to handle it for me. A lawyer even popped up here offering his firm's expungement services for $1200 or whatever .... stating that it is too complicated to do it alone. A lot of BS sometimes flies around here.

Yes, each chief makes the decision .... with the info from NJSP SBI, among other places. Which includes, in my case, my previous denial, my criminal record, my expungement record. And, my carry permit application denial, if I had actually applied. The chief sees everything. And, he would see that there is no disability against firearm ownership under NJ law. There's no delay in the process.

I've been through it. And, so have the others that I gave a little guidance to concerning self expungement .... and then they re-applied after denial ..... marking the question "yes."

I asked pro-2A NJ Assemblyman Carroll why that question, and the criminal record question, is even on the application since the deciding chief will get the information in the normal course of background check anyway. He thought it was an "honesty" check.

Anyway, maybe I'm full of sh*t. I got to split, off to Pa. Good hunting.
