Listen fellas , i hope he does recover , i hope he isnt disabled in any way what i meant is maybe this will teach him going foward the importance of wearing safety gear !! All i hear on this site day in and day out ....treestand fall , guy gets hurt , guy dies , guy may never walk again ...ect....and everytime that is posted ...everyone on here expresses safety , gives harnesses away for free , offers to help one another to be safe....i think more generousity on this site than any other when it comes to helping other be safe ...and to hear it still happening is no excuse ...period ...especially to family of people who are on the site who are part of the preaching ....

Rwg i didnt mean to be mean about it .....

In the old days things like wood rot, nail rust would contribute to falls on homemade stands. But today with safer stands and better safety straps falls still happen .I admit I dont wear straps ,maybe due to being up ladders all the time on jobs. After hearing about all these falls I will try to start wearing them .Hopefully he will be ok as well as the others .

no offense or not trying to seem like a real dbag , but good for em ....now he will understand the importance

and shame on you being member on the site , after all the talks and safety reminders you didnt beat it into him
Nice! It amazes me the stuff that pops out of some peoples heads spontaneously. How a situation begetting empathy & sympathy can spark such a reaction. Triggers thoughts of the book by William Golding "Lord of the Flies" and George Orwell's book "Animal Farm." Where does this type of personality go if left unchecked by society's social constraints? When, where, how, under what circumstances, and after remaining dormant for how long, could this mindset be unleashed? One would assume after some degree of self control subdues & represses it again. Just the kind of time bomb you want to get into a dispute with in the woods ... while they’re carrying a deadly weapon ... right?... LOL A bit frightening ... to me anyway.

I hope everything turns out ok and he makes a full (as full as you can with steel plates) recovery. Its a damn shame to keep hearing about serious injuries/deaths from something so easily avoidable. Makes no sense why ppl cant strap into a tree. But for as long as we have hunting, we will have hunters falling from their stands. Ignorance is bliss, until you drop 20+ feet, destroy gear, break bones, paralysis and/or death. But keep saying it wont happen to me or Ill jump last second to saftey....you sound like my 10 year old cousin who knows everything he will ever need to know in life. That being said, as always, good luck and stay safe.

I wear saftey gear all the time now! But also accidents happen..gear can fail. So if you don't have something nice to say, keep it to yourself. That's what momma always said...be safe guys and lets continue to look out for one another! That's important!!

I need to get a pole climbing belt for hanging and taking down stands - that's a must have that I don't have.
Anyone use these or know where to get them ?
Any chainsaw shop that sells sthil or husqavarna should carry them. This is why i switched to 100% ladder stands anout 10 years ago. I wouldent even consider a hangon anymore. It also makes it nice that i dont have to carry all that crap and get all sweaty before the hunt

I believe most of the HSS harnesses come with lineman hook ups and a lineman strap.

I know its somewhat of a pain to use depending on the tree... but it'll save your butt

You still need a harness for hunting out of ladders. You don't need a lineman strap while you are hunting... just install a lifeline with a prusik knot and hook on to that before you even get in the tree. I have that set up on all my stands, including my ladder stand.
