rgw, real sorry to hear about your brother, yes, speedy recovery.
What he said now get him a tree hopper for hanging stands and a Life line and harness for getting in and out of them as a get well gift and maybe a cattle prod you can spark him up with anytime you see him going out with out that stuff.

If you use a rope style strap with a prussic knot this can double as a linesmans belt with most safety harnesses, just need an extra carabiner. I use 2 of these straps with my lone wolf sticks, before I climb in my stand I attach the other rope to my tether so I am contained the entire climb. Also doubles as an extra strap for moving around branches. The linesman's straps make hanging stands easier anyway as you have both hands free. I pack this stand and sticks in and out every trip. Hope your brother has a speedy recovery.

Thanks Jakesbeard - I am going to order it, once I get my new credit card in the mail. Just had to cancel it, someone was paying their AT&T wirless bills and ordering equipment with my card!!!

RGW that sucks man i hope the dr. works on him soon. i usually just hang stands without any strap but i read about a few falls on the site while hanging so i started useing a rope riged up with a safty belt and its actually easeyer to hang with it i can use both my hands also when i need them. falls dont happen offen but they do happen - SO BE SAFE GUYS
  • .Ditto ,been young dumb and lucky too long getting older and more worried story's here planted a seed i'm tying up a lot more now.Best wish's to your brother!
    Treehopper climbing belt
    That's cool.

I am sorry to hear about your brother. Since this has happened to a members family member on hear hopefully it will hit home and remind all of us to to wear our harness EVERY time. Its the one time that you don't where it is when things seem to haapen. I work in a very dangerous industry and the majority of the incidents that occur can be traced back to complacency not faulty equipment. Speedy recovery prayers sent.

The sportsman show at raritan center has a guy that sells a great lineman belt. It can reach around almost any size tree and has a really big clip with adjustable strap. One of the best safety devices out there for hanging stands and can free both hands up. Not great for a safety harness when hunting but terrific for hanging and taking down stands.

Hope your brother gets better soon.

no doubt, hunting especailly from a stand can be very dangerous ! do you ever think of this scenario of being up in a deer stand and hunting by yourself. than falling and being suspended up in the air. how would you get down ? i always carried a knife in my breast pocket for that reason. .

We both use the rescue one safety harness. They weigh a bit but we don't notice the weight anymore (like 6 pounds)

We picked them over the other types because it had two important features. 1 - it was repackable, so it wasn't a one time use thing, you can use it over and over again. 2- you had the choice or deploying it or not. If you fell and are hanging there - you can see if you can get back on to steps or your stand. If you can't - or if the stand fell then you pull on a release and slowly lower yourself to the ground using the hand brake

no offense or not trying to seem like a real dbag , but good for em ....now he will understand the importance

and shame on you being member on the site , after all the talks and safety reminders you didnt beat it into him
Thats the kind of thing an Anti hunting extremist would say, when they celebrate one of us getting hurt while hunting. Pretty messed up bro...
