yup that was my brother. broke his ankle and have to put steel plates in. his ankle is still to swolen for them to do the surgery yet.

no doubt, hunting especailly from a stand can be very dangerous ! do you ever think of this scenario of being up in a deer stand and hunting by yourself. than falling and being suspended up in the air. how would you get down ? i always carried a knife in my breast pocket for that reason. .

The likelihood that your stand would fall all the way off the tree leaving you completely hanging in the air are slim at worst. But if you were, just hug the tree and pull yourself up enough to loosen the strap around the tree and then hug the tree going down. Any sudden fall during that lowering will be stopped by the safety harness as you leave the tree strap on, just loose. Companies like HSS give you a strap that attaches to your vest that allows you to stand and take any pressure off your legs so you don't cut off blood supply or pass out. Keep it on your person in reach at all times like they tell you to and you'll always be home for dinner with your loved ones!

Wow - talk about being over the top... Please seek help!

I guess the d-bag comment was directed at me too as I never wore anything hanging or taking down stands, but I do while hunting.
I will get that linesman's belt though.... Thanks DougM...

buck you are such a f***en dush. you have no clue what you are talking about. he never even got a chance to put his safty belt on. and your saying i should be a shamed to be a member what the f**k. you are the one that is alawys on here crying you cant get a buck, and you never see any deer, and when someone says they tagged out you say good lol naby i can hunt that spot. now in my opinion only a dush says those comments and i feel you should be more ashamed to to call your self a hunter want to be and a member of this site.

RGW that sucks man i hope the dr. works on him soon. i usually just hang stands without any strap but i read about a few falls on the site while hanging so i started useing a rope riged up with a safty belt and its actually easeyer to hang with it i can use both my hands also when i need them. falls dont happen offen but they do happen - SO BE SAFE GUYS

I carry a long cam lock strap in my pants while hunting. I use it to drag deer, but in event of fall and suspended from harness, I can use as suspension relief strap, or can put around tree, tie two loops in long tag end for footholds, then slide harness strap down tree and repeat for emergency decent. Packs small and gives me an option

Congratulations on winning Dick post of the year [down]

i got the hss ultra light end of last year i used it this summer putting up stands i felt it did more harm then good now i know im going to catch shit for saying that but using the linemen belt climbing a tree putting screw in steps in the damn thing was in my way. I do use it but i climb up hook myself to the tree pull up my bow and im set then i lower my stuff down end of hunt unhook and climb down. and yes i know that most accidents happen getting in and out of the stand and that i should have a rope running from the ground to the stand to tie off to while climbing. as for using the limens belt it does help for setting up stands once your up nice to be able to use two hands. but using it while in a climbing stand i looked like a dog chasing his tail with the damn thing getting hung up when i would go to lift the stand up then i would try to bring the botom up and the belt would be hung up so i was stuck in an akward bent over tree hugging position.like i said i do use mine do i use it right no if i fall asleep in the tree and role out will i hit the ground no. maybe after a full year of hunting with it ill find a better way to incorperate it into my hunt but for now im safe 80% of the time.
