I used to drive deer every 6 day all day with about 15 guys. We did this religiously for years. And called ourselves "the outlaws", our motto was " Your Land is Our Land". Actually some of the original core group of originals still do it every year, some guys moved, some stopped hunting for whatever reasons, some like myself got one too many trespassing tickets and wound up without the privileges to hunt or fish for 2 years. That sucked! All the CO's knew our trucks, names, and our drives after a while. When you have to borrow your girlfriend's Saturn to hunt because the co's were following your truck. Ya know theres a problem. We used to monitor their radio channels with a portable scanner until they figured out what we were doing and quit dispatching on the air. We had multiple incidents with property owners and police, in many different towns. I don't miss hunting in my Nike's for escape purposes. Everyone knows the best deer aren't in the WMA's. They are everywhere that your not supposed to be. The temptation is great to trespass, and theres always one or two drives that are sketchey. But some crazy hunting with us was always willing to go no gun no.orange to scoop out the backyards of a row of McMansions full of slammer deer. it got to the point where we would be driving around neighborhoods casing & researching when the people left for work so we knew when to drop a guy off to run through their yard. We knew every yard that had a fence or a stay at home mom and a big ass dog laying in the backyard. It gets really old after a decade. Im happy to not do it any longer. the adrenaline rush and excitement is addictive when you have some lady screaming from her deck at you as your feet have smoke pouring off them from running mock 3 into a briar patch to escape. The past 3 or 4 seasons I haven't even touched my shotgun or muzzle loader for deer. I would rather sit in my legal private farm with my bow during 6 day. Your going to find out really quick that driving deer through WMA's isn't going to make you any friends, and wont be as productive as you may think. By the time 6 day is here, the deer are so stirred up after bow season and early muzzleloader as well as Phesant and small game they're no where near the WMA'S. They are hanging in the neighborhoods surrounding the WMA's. Good luck to you this year with your horrible idea. Be safe, one thing we never had were any injured guys, I fully trust every guy I hunted with. If we caught a guy doing anything dangerous he was gone and not coming back. There's really very few places you can drive deer legally that are actually holding shooter deer.

We just want to make sure that we will not be encroaching on private land so there definitely will be some scouting involved leading up to 6 day. I know it's the rut but we are going to make sure our drives are done ethically and safe so that does require some scouting ahead of time.
Yeah thats why nerds created Google earth, use a map.

I never did a deer drive.and I wanna join. the group. I know for a fact we do one on here on Fri of 6 day. So stop crying.pull you panties up and deal with it. WMA is public land. And if its legal its a deal. If not join a club or bowhunt .
I like how the out of state guys tell new jersey hunters to stop crying. I would love too see NJ become a 1 buck state. See how many out of staters pay for that 1 dink over here in NJ. But no, give em 6 bucks and they shoot everything brown. The best thing that happened to PA was the antler restriction and you guys are still bitching and moaning

Holy Crap!!! [ko]

Have some of you guys ever hunted 6 day before?[confused] It is what it is and it has always been that way. There is 2 1/2 months of hunting prior to six day. Get over it.:026: Do your homework, find the escape routes and use the other hunters to your advantage.
I am part of a club that drives, have a blast doing it but in the evening I use the other club that drives through a set of woods and I do the same exact thing sit and wait until they push them right to me.

Seriously? Scout the property lines of the wmas online. Now guys have to worry about you storming through the woods during permit bow as well to "scout" for your drives.

I think if the people who were going to do deer drives waited a day or two instead of starting it first thing on opening day morning as a matter of respect to the other people in the woods, it wouldn't have the same reaction. Similiarly, if it was done on Saturday of shotgun when deer are holed up in some thick cover, I could see it benefiting everyone at that point to just get them moving. I think its just a matter of respect to the other guys in the woods.

You guys crack me up! We have tons of antis telling us to stop hunting, and you elitist snobs want to ban a style of hunting, useful idiots are what you are. Buy the way, drive hunts have been used as a hunt method before archery was even a thought. I attend 1 or 2 drives a year that are put on by this site, we never had a conflict with another hunter, in fact we've had several ask to join us. I pretty much quit the six day season, not because of drives but because of all the other idiots out there.

so I think I understand now most of the whiners don't care if they drive just wait till end of week till after you have had a chance to kill yours is this correct
when a bunch of guys drive a particular piece of land, it ruins the hunting on that land for that particular day, and possibly the next several days/weeks/etc. so if a guy has spent time scouting, setting up, placing a stand or setting up a blind, and he gets in the woods at 4am, gets ready for sunrise, etc, his hunt will be ruined by the first group of goons that come bombing through the woods at 8am. it's not a matter of "let the sitters kill theirs first," it's a matter of ethics and how to treat fellow hunters. the hunting technique used by the guys who just want to sit does not disturb the woods for everyone else. the drivers do in fact disturb the woods for everyone else. how is that fair? maybe if the drivers waited until noon. or only drove the last couple days of 6 day, then it would be ok. but why does someone who has worked hard on his hunt have to get it ruined by a group of drivers? why are the drivers entitled to ruin the day for everyone?

We have a lot of hunters and we have a small state. The access to private land is limited by who you know or what your family owns. We all bash the guy the other day for checking in to see if there is anyone willing to let him onto their private land. The guys was laughed at and for good reason.

Now, with that said, if you are limited to hunting the six-day firearm season for whatever reason (choice, income, work, kids obligations in the fall), going out opening day morning is maybe the one day each year that they can look forward to. Often, seeing other hunters is unavoidable for just the reasons I stated above. Most people though are respectful enough to keep a safe distance. I'm simply saying that I've climbed mountains to avoid the crowds that go down the mountain on the opener but it never fails, at least every other year, at day break, out comes the hooting and holloring and the line of drivers. Once its past through, most times I don't even see a deer until the evening or the next day if, and that's a big if, those same drivers come through once again.

I will admit, being caught in those drives has benefited me in the past so I want to make sure I provide full disclosure here. But on this website we are constantly talking about stand placement, playing the wind, being careful of the paths we take to and from our stands. This all applies to gun hunting as well. Now, let's take a big giant dump on all those things we learned about when 20 guys come walking through the woods direct from their smoke filled trucks, bleached diner floors, gas stations and whatever else wearing the same clothing they wore last season without washing at 7 am on Monday.

I've participated in drives, I've killed deer in drives and I think they are great because it means not having to scout (as much), the time spent with friends and family. Not looking to outlaw deer drives. It's stupid to think you could ever do that. But to me, you need to plan better on "the where" and especially "the when" you are going to do them. I think there are WMAs or at least areas of them you could do deer drives first thing on Monday and effect very few people and still get deer.

To wrap this up, its kind of like opening day or trout. If there is a particular spot on a stream that you want to fish and you get their early. You do expect to have to deal other people of course but what you don't and shouldn't have to put up with is the jacka** that comes at 7:58 and stands over top of you with a rod meant for surf fishing and a spinner that matches it. It's all a matter of respect to the other people that you are sharing the woods and waters with.

BS I have killed deer an hour after a drive you will not push all deer out in fact some bucks are smart enough to lay down and let you walk by,but with that reason maybe we should not bait on public land after all that draws deer from it's natural route and screws the guys that hunt trails and scrapes. do you see were this is going if you guys keep whining first we lose drives then bait next thing you know someone will complain its not right to have a store-bought seat on public land because they stand on branches and sit on the ground or whatever other reason they have to cry
