It's been a frustrating start to the season, and a tough couple of months but I had a really good feeling about today. I was late getting into the blind, and had a deer walking the ridge above me before legal light. About 7:20 I see this guy coming in. He is taking his sweet time, stopping to chew on brush and wind around. Finally he comes in and i'm thinking... should I? The freezer is basically empty. If I give him a pass someone else is going to shoot him (no antler restrictions and hunters who don't care). And I want to get one off the property so I can go scout my land trust property tomorrow... So I took the shot.
10 yard shot if that... he ran about 30-40 yards. It was a quartering away shot... he fought the good fight. I could see him the whole time. My entry spot was good, the exit wound... well lets just say it came out under him, perfect spot to start field dressing and nicked his goods.
So... he isn't the biggest or the best, but he's my first buck.
