I just purchased the hss life line. Im gonna be using it with a 2 man ladder stand. Was hoping I could get some tips on using it with a ladder type stand. Where should I anchor the bottom of the life line? Should I tie it to bottom step of ladder? Should the life line be in the center of ladder when I climb?

like I said never used one before so thanks for any info you guys could throw out there

Good move getting a HSS Lifeline! I have them on all my ladder stands and love being strapped in before I even leave the ground. Whenever I borrow someone else's stand that doesn't have a lifeline, I feel totally vulnerable and unsafe.

I have mine secured to the bottom step, but as others said, read the directions and watch the video. For ease of sliding the prussic knot while climbing up and down, make sure there isn't too much slack in the line after you secure it to the tree and stand. Also, even though my stands are on private land, I had some concern about my lifelines walking off, so I secured them with rope clamps I got at Home Depot for the princely sum of $1.33 each. This won't stop a determined thief, but it will make them work a little. As part of your research, if two people will be using your stand at a time, you should look into whether you should get two lifelines (which I believe would be the case).

Good luck and happy hunting!

If two people are useing the stand, I see no reason why you can't add another prussic knot to the line, as long as the rope extends high enough above the stand and your straps don't interfer with one another. Or the person sitting farthest from the line can attach to the tree in the normal manner once in the stand

I wasn't sure about the load limit of the lifelines but HSS does in fact have a 2 man version with 2 prussic knots:

HSS-Lifeline 2C - Hunter Safety System

And you can get them a little cheaper here:

Hunter Safety Systems Life-Line 2-Man Safe Climb System 2 Prussics/2 Carabiners - Tree Stand Accessories : Hunter Safety System : Bowhunters International, Bowhunters Supply Store, Archery Supplies, Archery Equipment, Bowhunting Supplies

IDK... I would want one lifeline per person. Problem will be with the tether getting in the way. Problem may also be with overloading the main line if two people fall.

I like to lasso the lifeline around a thick tree limb at the top, but if thats not available use a strap at the top.

Tie the line snug at the bottom so its easy to pull the prussic up and down as you climb.

I usually run the line up the left side of my stand, not the center as it gets in the way as you climb up.

As Technical Rescuer the HSS System is load tested to 9,000lbs on the rope and prussiks. It is industry minimum standard for life safety rope. So over loading the main line I would not worry about unless you cut it or tie a knot in the middle between you and the top knot then it is reduced by half. I hang with 2 men at 250lbs and gear at about 100lbs 105ft above concrete and never had a problem yet. Just remember it not the fall that hurts the sudden stop at the end .. Also after "No Fear Is Oh Shit"!!!!

I'm just gonna throw it out there. Why would you even need a lifeline climbing a ladder stand? Do you all use one when your cleaning the gutters? I use my harness when I'm in a ladder with no rail around me. But, when I'm in my ladder that has a shooting rail around it I don't even bother. I think you have to be a little irresponsible not to use one in a lock on. But I think were getting a little over the top with needing a life line climbing a ladder.

I only use a standard harness no safetyline..just use standard tie-off that comes with the harness to go around the tree. I use that on all stands, don't care if its a ladder, climber or lock-on..

To be honest the ladder set up is for my wife. I just wanted her to be safe as possible...Ive never used a life line and was just looking for any tips on using one. I always use a saftey harness in my climber and hang ons. I really wish she would just hunt out of a ground blind, but she really wanted a ladder stand. Am I being over protective? Yes!
