Picked up my son, (10 years old), from school and drove out to our hunting area. We have been hunting over bait since opening day, but have had problems with some very smart does always circling downwind. Tonight, I had some nice acorn trees in mind to try for the evening, but didn't have a stand there. Arrived at the location, carried the two lock on stands and got all set up by 415, with a lot of sweating and some cussing. [lol] At 615 a nice big doe came walking over feeding on the acorns. She took her time. He was really shaking by the time she moved in to 10 yards. When she stopped at 10 yards he couldn't get his bow back trying to shoot at the downward angle, restrictive coveralls, and excitement, he was shaking like a leaf! I was able to help him get the bow back without alerting the doe and he took the shot. I saw the arrow hit behind the front shoulder but high and angling rearward. The doe ran about 80 yards and stopped and stood for 3 minutes or so and then slowly walked another 30 yards and out of sight. I was a little worried that she didn't go down, so with temperatures forcasted to be in the upper 30's to 40 I decided to wait until morning. We returned at first light and found the deer right where I last saw it! Looks like he got only one lung due to the steep angle, but she was probably expired shortly after I last saw her. He had his first deer, very special and the first of many, I hope. Thanks, Mark.
