Well, I'm back from my annual salmon river fishing trip in Pulaski, NY. We couldn't have hit it any better, the fishing was AWESOME! The river was loaded with fish on Friday and Saturday, the two days I fished. It rained all day thursday up there which brought up the water levels in the river, along with the mother load of fishies
Friday morning we were on the water by 6am, crossing the river in the dark just below the Black Hole for those of you familiar with the river, with a 950 cfs flow, which is fairly high. Friday morning started off relatively slow, with a few hookups here and there, but by about 1pm, the fish were running up stream non-stop. We had fish sitting 5 feet in front of us all afternoon, non-stop action until we decided to leave about 5pm. My right arm was literally cramping up by then from battling with so many fish.
Saturday was a carbon copy of Friday afternoon. We were on the water by 5:15am, in order to get to the spots we fished on Friday. Any later than this and we would have been SOL for prime spots on the river, with this being Saturday. Pure bedlam right off the bat, my first cast Sat. morning was quickly followed by me hollering FISH ON, and that continued on over and over and over until about 10 am when me and my gang had enough. My right hand, forearm and shoulder are still soar today. Many fish hooked and landed during our outing, without a doubt one of my best trips ever in the 15+ years I have been fishing up there. Here are just a few pics I managed to take between fish:
My friend Ziggy with a nice King, this fish was actually small, the Kings are running BIG this year, 30+ lbs. being very common.
I have to throw in a pic of myself as well with a nice King.
My buddy Ziggy with a beautiful Steelhead. 34" that probably weighesd about 13+/- lbs. He landed a total of 5 Steelies on Friday, that's unheard of!
A couple more steelies!
And last but not least, my friends 9 year old with one of his first salmon landed! It was awesome watching him fight these fish. Everyone around us was very courteous and gave him all the time he needed to fight and land his fish. I can't wait til my boys are old enough to bring up there with me.
