Yup .... get some pigeons.
I bought the wings for the fishing pole, whats up with pigeons?
Sorry, I shouldn't have shot my mouth off. I don't want to give any advice on training a pointer ..... I've only had flushers.

But, pigeons are used to get an 8 week old pup birdy, prey drive, and retrieving.

Well he is house broke but I am having issues with getting him to relax on lease, heel, stay and come. It is like he listens then stops at some point.

I also think I am doing something wrong because sometimes he comes and is wagging his stub then other times he comes over and dribbles pee.

I don't want to mess the little guy up. Any ideas that will not cost thousands?

i would say it has alot to do with the tone of your voice and your posture if he comes over and pees. How old is he?At a young age you dont want to work them to much they get fusturated and tired quick. Are you using the positive reinforcement method?

He is 12 weeks today. I am trying to stay consistent with voice. I have a strong voice to begin with. I bend at the knees but am still a big guy.

If I sit down he is fine.

Trying to use positive enforcement. He rings bell when he has to go he is fine in crate. I say go in and he goes in crate fine. It is when we do focused training. He retrieves great. Goes gets ball or toy brings it back ready to go again.

At 12 weeks dont expect to much he is still used to being with his litter mates he will start growing fast now.Stay consistant with him never use a stern voice till he understands what you want him to do.If he is less imtimidated with you sitting then sit down.make sure that you and the wife and kids are using the same commands with him if one says sit and one says down it will confuse him.As far as live birds its a great idea build a small pen and get a phesant prefably a hen so they dont cackle at the sound of noise it will build his confidence.

Biggest thing I was having trouble with was the vet said don't take him places until all shots. But when I read they say take him out to see things and socialize and see birds.

There is no way I can build and have a pheasant on my property. What about taking him to game farms this time of year? Do they charge?

Have to be very carefull with kennel cough when they are young.Take him out but not around other dogs to he has all his shots. You can go walk hin in any WMA that stocks most have dog training area and there are some birds around.

I have a Male for sell

I have a male pup 12 months old. Started on pheasant, both parents on premise. Both are from Quail Hollow and have been hunting over for 2 years now. Lot of natural instinct. Must be good home. That's why I still have him. I am not a breeder and will be the first and last litter I will have. Want some one to hunt and love the pup. Has all recent shots. Name is DJ which stand for Doc Holiday Jr. He's a splitting image of his father and acts like him also. All other pups out of litter or hunting. $800.00

I appreciate all of the input.

Remmy is coming around. He is listening better, acting better, and having fun. Guess I am learning not to be frustrated.

I am going to look into a couple groups around me for gatherings and learning.

I have to say, this is pretty interesting when things come together.

My only wish is I should have done this years ago. I also hope to have another dog in the next couple of years.

I can't wait to hunt over him.

Well, took Remmy to the NAVHDA clinic yesterday. Enjoyed myself and he did as well. He slept on the way home and was excited once he got home. I was introduced to a lot of nice people. Soaked up some information, and also left with more questions.

I will fill out application for both groups, NJ and PA. going to look around for second hand training devices. My buddy is looking into raising birds, I know he father will raise them for us.

Remmy will be 17 weeks old tomorrow.

He enjoyed the chucker, pointed well, but shied away from the bird when it moved. Thank you to those who gave me the bird to freeze. I will be working with him in the back yard. Looks like my buddy is interested in coming out as well, he just picked up French Britt.

I will be seeking out more obedience help. I want to do right by this dog and make sure he is confident.

Thanks again to those who assisted. If anyone reads this and was there, drop me a PM so I know who you are.

Well, at the advice of a gentleman, Mark, from my 1 day with NAVHDA, I took his advice and signed up for a class at Pet Smart. The dog listens in the rec room and in the back yard, but when I am around others.. nope. (will be joining in the new year.)liked the people I met and what I saw.

So had my first class at pet smart. Looking forward to many more.

Remmy just turned 5 months and the SOB is starting to ignore commands in one on one, and getting a little rowdy. I know I am only supposed to say the command once.. so glad I enrolled in the classes. I will follow them through.

We are working on the commands, and dealing with submissive/excited urination. At least he is now birdie.. love the chucker and the quail. We couldn't figure out why he wasn't picking up the quail. Then all of a sudden a light bulb went off and I checked his teeth, he was teething. Now adult teeth are broke through. He picks up the quail and the chucker and brings it to me.

This is a lot of work and will probably have a trainer teach him for hunting. Not sure yet, depends on if I can make it through the teens. Trying to get through this before my second child is born in Dec. Will make things more interesting.

Thanks again for advice.
