Nice brant, Do you carve cedar blocks? Years ago I made all of my blocks from black cork with
cedar heads.
I carved a total of 10 brant 6 buffies and 2 red breasted mergs out of cedar and that was it.... Messed around with cork.... But now I carve foamers and love it!!!!

Never used foam other then the decoys that Lou Tish makes. Back when you could get it, wily cork was real nice. You didn't need to seal it before painting and with the weight it had the blocks ride the water like a live bird.

Where do you get your foam Deuce? I have some foam from docks I think it's closed cell foam? Would that be usable? Do you resin some burlap over the foam or just use the foam?

I have a bunch if patters and some books on carving ceder decoys but I haven't for atound to it yet, bows the time to do it after turkey season I have to give it a go.

Thats funny I have the same Brant decoys and they were made by Artie Birdsall, Pt. Pleasant, NJ

Good eye...these were made from his pattern & rough cut in his shop.

Since it is now obvious that "billcolector" is making a passive aggressive remark infering that I did not carve the bird....and in doing so trying to smear a thread that is more about a fond memory of a good dog then it was about a banded brant and a carved decoy....

Not that i should have to or even waste my time...BUT here are some pics...Most of the patterns for the bodies and heads were cut At Arties shop since i didn't have a band saw big enough at the time...All the hollowing and sanding to a finished product was done in my little "wood pecker" shop....Those where my first 2 buffies & first broadbill(forgot about her) carved from a great lakes pattern....The red head I bought..sweet bird from a guy out west

Taking credit for carving decoys that were made by Artie on his copy machine is not carving them yourself. I took you to Arties and you bought blanks all you did was sand them by the way are you ever going to return the Brant decoys I loaned you to copy from. I see that you have them in the picture the ones with the good paint job that Artie made for me.
