Funny you should ask ... saw a woodcock the other morning sitting in the roadway, at dawn, on an exit ramp from Rt 440 in Woodbridge Twp. It's near the Raritan River waterfront, but I've never seen one on the highway before.
Worked dogs all day Fri. found 27 and one grouse. I would say it was a small flight that we hit but we were able to go to some of our haunts and get into them. Maybe another 4 days or week or so and they'll be here thick as thieves. time to get the young ones out. As soon as the robins come back and the skunk cabbage starts pushing back to the top you know it's time to get your A-- off the couch and get your dogs out. Iwas on the PA side. Best of luck to evryone
Mike my buddy ran the fed. lands by the cemetary. Found 1. No flight birds just yet. FYI roads are still closed so keep that in mind. he had to go in from 206. Also said the roads were really pretty bad. Stay tuned
Mike, thanks for the heads up...I am hoping to get up there soon just to get the dogs on a few. Both dogs have never seen a woodcock so I am looking forward to it.
