We tons of ducks landing in our set as we were shooting geese. We were standing up shooting the ducks could care less.
I guess they knew the duck season ended and they were safe.

like others have posted, I too am a die hard waterfowler and it's the same story every year not just for coastal but for north and south as well. Every year the season ends and 2-3 weeks later we start getting all the correct weather and migratory birds that were seldom seen throughout the rest of the season. Its very frustrating to see this happen year after year especially since there are very few birds around (where I hunt) in the first few weeks of the season. Would love to get some wigeon, pintail, gaddys, and ringnecks, all of which I have seen after the season closes.

I received the survey from NJF&W and returned it over a month ago.
Some questions seemed to be geared toward determining if you would prefer more Saturdays in the seasons and altering the start dates. I am kicking myself for not making a copy before I returned it.

Ironically, my son and I each received a Federal survey today from USFWS. It's dated 1/10/13.
Unfortunately, they ask you to detail every hunt in 2012 and use the provided diary sheet to enter specific dates of each hunt, number of ducks, sea ducks, geese and brant taken and the number wounded and not retrieved.
Then they tell you, "If you receive this survey too late for you to remember all of the details of your hunts, please fill out the lower portion of the form for Season Totals."

How the hell do they expect to receive accurate data by sending this out now ?
I don't keep a diary, although I probably should. In any event, we are going to do our best to estimate our total kills for the regular season and the late resident Canada goose season.

I got the same survey, going to do the season total option also being that I was able to hunt alot and there isn't enough space to detail every single hunt and I don't really remember every hunt.
I was shocked I received something though.

I received a survey and returned it within a day .

I believe a "town meeting" type of forum would be like a public comment at council meetings. 3 minutes of the same speech from several people, and far as government goes a" Thanks for your input",
the same framework as last year.
How to change the seasons would be the question for the Division.
We have many fair weather hunters who would rather hunt when it's 50
Degrees out instead of 15! My father in law called me yesterday and said the bay was freezing, made me think of the birds looking fir open water.
Oh well, maybe next year!

.I am getting lots of positive feedback offline from fellow hunters lets keep the momentum going!, make sure you speak to your friends that are not members of our online community I have what I posted in a word document and would be happy to email it to you for distribution

In all honesty, The only thing that screwed up coastal this year was the split...A 4 day split was moronic...

Its pretty simple, lets just go back to the way it was done years prior...Next year should open on the 9th of november until the 16th...then close until the 28th(turkey-day) and remain open to Jan 28th...That gives us the last possible saturday in Jan...

********News Flash******************

Just got off the phone with one of my clients to discuss his support, he informed me that his 16 year old son received the survey that was sent out to 1100 hunters....what kind of survey goes out to children to influence the fate of the waterfowl seasons.....talk about moronic this kid is a nice kid but he can't vote, fight for his country or drive but someone at the state feels he is mature enough to chime in about when the waterfowling seasons shoud be set???[wallmad]

I got this forward and I am passing it along. This is not my opinion or endorsement - dont live there and am not imformed.

Here it is:

If you received a survey in the mail from the NJ Division of Fish and Wildlife in regards to the waterfowl season dates, please contact me at DeltaNJ@aol.com.

We are having issues with the manner in which the survey was conducted and we will be working with various other waterfowling groups to question the way that the survey was conducted. There were over 6,000 waterfowlers in NJ according to the HIP survey yet only 1,100 surveys were mailed.

Many received an e-mail survey relating to the Phesant and Quail season and more recently the Trout Stamp, yet the division of fish and wildlife was unwilling to do an e-mail survey for the waterfowl season.

Thank you for sharing that information. Please respond to that email address so that all waterfowlers are informed with what is going on

Everyone keep up the good work. The pressure is on

I think what we really need to focus on addressing to the state is the drastic change in weather patterns that are directly effecting the migration. I dont no whats happening, whether it be a warm weather trend or global warming but our last few seasons have been very warm and we are only getting about a week or two if that of the freeze that most die hard waterfowlers wait for. Just in my time that I have been gunning alone, (about 15 years) I have seen a big weather change and the lack of birds to go with it. We used to be into a deep freeze by mid December and now are lucky if we even get one at all. Old timers will tell you how cold it was by mid to late Novomber and the coast would be on fire with birds. Something is definately happening and we need to address this change in weather patterns and adjust our seaosons accordingly. There are multiple articles on the internet as well stating what theses changing weather patterns are doing to our seasons, both big game and waterofowl.

Chris that is part of the argument that will be made for the longer season within the framework....however a change in the framework will have to be at the Federal level...we are not taking that on at this time for obvious reasons
