I was hunting in NY state Oswego Cpunty one year
[lol]What year? I was lost in Redfield [Oswego County] also. 1500 acres surrounded by water on three sides and a religeous camp and I couldn't find water or one holy roller[hihi]In the rolling knolls and swamps everything looks the same

Opening morning of six day this yr in the fog.. what normally would have taken 15 mins to walk into my stand took over an hr. I got so turned around cus of the thick fog. Needless to say i marked the trail out that afternoon

Yes sir Colin..I'll admit it when I saw your flashlight coming back my way...but id did walk you to your stand then had to try to find mine !! [rofl] not fun in the FOG

Back in 1965 I was home on leave and my older brother took me deer hunting in Stokes. He gave me instructions to stay in one spot and not to move. Several hours later he "retrived " me and while walking out we ran inot a younger hunter who was lost for several hours and was really scared. He was so happy to find us and we got him out of the woods safely. The look on his face is still with me and I vowed never to get lost. I may have come close but never did.

Ok so i got my first GPS in like 95. A cheeep One at that. Upstate NY IN St Lawrence County. Dense Cover and a lot of down fall from ice the year Before. You will lose signal. And stright line do not always happing. A compass is a must. Once u start relying on moss on trees your in deep. Pick a distant object and then another. I hit a Road and up their thats (still) Hunting.[smirk]

About ten years ago I hit a doe on a Halloween pm hunt at a friends property, I got down n started following blood trail, a good blood trail but it seemed like it was zig zagging, so I started marking the trail w Brite Eyes. Blood trail pittered out n I turned around n shined the woods up w my flashlight n the friggen woods lit up like a Christmas tree from all the Brite Eyes I put up! I found a road n a cop came up n I had him call my pal. My pal still busts my chops about all the Brite Eyes at his spot.

Not counting the being temporarily misplaced, only once about 20 yrs ago in the Adirondacks near Paul Smiths. Three of us had hiked in about 5 miles to a valley surrounded by mountains, not a house or road for many miles. A warm evening in late October, so I decided to hunt near camp with only a heavy shirt. Stayed till dark, then made a wrong turn off the trail and kept thinking I would find camp, but it wasn't happening. I decided to go no further because i was definitely lost and it had been dark for at least an hour or so. Yelled but only silence so i started preparing myself for the possibility of a cold night in the woods. The hollows and hills soak up sound so i decided 3 shots was my best chance to get out. I knew my friends knew I was lost by then and I heard a distant shot back. I walked toward them and they shot a few more times and pretty soon I could hear them when they yelled. I got a lot of ribbing and never went in big woods again without a compass and basic survival gear.

I was a hunting on a mountain top near Andes, NY & heard a shot down below me. Then i heard another and another and another, along with yelling and they kept getting closer until the person was one ridge below me. I'm thinking somebody's coming up the mountain after a wounded buck or bear, so I was ready to give a finish shot. I hear more shots and yelling and finally see a guy pop up. One look at him and I knew he was lost. He was in a panic, shooting rounds off and yelling. I said something to him and when he saw me his face looked like he had seen Jesus Christ and he came running over. He was glad to see another human. Once he calmed down, he tried to explain where his camp was, but I didn't know it. I just wanted to get rid of him and get back to hunting so I told him that it's pretty hard to get really lost in most of the Catskills because there's roads at the bottom of most mountains, so pick one side of the mountain and head downhill until you cut a road. Never could figure out why he walked up the mountain instead of down.

I never get lost. Sometimes I don't where I am, but never lost. One year my buddy who hunts our place hit a nice 8 point in our swamp. We tracked it and found it around 9 pm and started dragging it out. (This was before I got the 6 wheel amphib) There was no traffic out on the road, no moon or stars, and no planes going in and out of Mcquire AFb. We each had gps's and compasses. But we "knew" the woods and after dragging for an hour, and not believing our compasses and gps's because we "knew " the woods, we called my wife to drive to the back field and blow the car horn. We had been dragging the buck to Pemberton, opposite where we wanted to go.

all the time, its my own fault for not having a compass with me on cloudy days. i know were i am in the overall picture but i lose scouting time and learning the lay of the land when im lost, turned around and circling. newyears day i did two giant U's trying to use the wind as a compass going through a cedar swamp. wasted almost 2 hours. next time i will have waders and a compass.

Not hunting ,but i was fishing with a buddy first time in the salmon river tribs .we got dropped off fished all day ,did not even relize we walked miles from all the excitment of catching all the fish, we got lost for over 6 hrs ,till we saw a camp fire ,everyone was to drunk to help so we hung out till the next morning.then we walked the river and met our buddies from camp.day i wont forget.

I feel like it's tough to get lost in NJ but I can completely see how it happens in big out of state woods.

I got lost once hunting ginseng in PA if that counts [lol]

I got lost a few times. In the big woods, the fog and on unmapped or misnamed back roads trying to get to destinations in Kansas, Kentucky, and West Virginia. It wasn't so bad in the big woods and fog, but it sucks being lost and hearing "Dueling Banjos" in your head! [eek]

I got turned around on the mountain between cozy lake and green pond once. I was about 15 had the family worried but found my way out.
