Made them all look dumb.....[hihi]

Nothing is as it appears until you see the evidence that leads to the conclusion. I had that same result on another deer I killed. A little more blood on the arrow than that, but not by much. There would have been a major investigation as always had the deer not dropped in sight. That was a long time ago. Even the smallest amount of blood should be followed up.

I heard about this thread from someone on this site. and i said no way. this is gotta be a prank. turns out.. it was [rofl]

Post was def not a prank and actually something you should have learned something by. IF this deer had run , many guys upon looking at their arrow would have thought they had only graized this deer, and Might not have looked any further.

in respect for the game we hunt, doing all the checks are required. their was not even one post here from anyone that "what kind of blood did you find after the deer ran. so tells me once again its too easy to be mislead.

Question still is HOW can you shoot an arrow causing that much damage can you only get such a slight trace of a hit ???????????

and their was very little fat on this animal , def not enough to wipe any of it off.

I think you can thank todays super fast bows for the lack of arrow sign. That and a super sharp broadhead that helped it go thru that fast.

What Bow and setup were you using?

This is a great post. Great lesson for everyone. I agree with what your saying Hammer4reel most guys would have walked away thinking they just grazed the deer. If they didnt see it drop. Stevo i believe there may be some truth to what your saying also. My father shot a deer in early bow season with his cross bow. arrow looked very similar to hammers arrow. Very little blood and some fat.The hit was good and deer only went 75yds but left very little blood but enough that i knew the deer was dead. Took use over a hour to find the deer.

I would have to agree with Stevo on this one along with just the way (path) the arrow passed through.
This is a good thread and hammer is right about giving the animal the effort to recover when shot. I would have thought a grazing shot myself, especially using mechanical heads.

Glad some guys have found it informative, and may benefit from it at a later date.

Bow set up was a Hoyt alpha burner shooting ACC 360 with a 1 3/4" grim reaper.

Ross, was very little snow left where I harvested this deer.
I believe shots lower in the chest cavity just show better sign, than those that stay higher in it.

partially due to there being alot less muscle there
