My first longbow harvest and it was an awesome hunt. Started with a young spike at first light then the woods came alive with turkeys. I had 7-8 gobblers sounding off and chasing hens and poults all around me. One of the gobblers was a beast and I'd bet money it was over 25 pounds. With all the turkey watching, I never noticed the doe cross the creek next to my tree until she was 5 yards away. I drew back and with knees shaking I sent an arrow 2 feet over her back and drilled it into dirt. She spun around, stepped on and snapped my arrow then came to a stop 15 yards later behind some cover. She stood there for over 5 minutes snorting and stomping without having a clue what just happened. I tried to gather myself but my heart was pumping! After knocking another arrow, she slowly walked out from the cover and with her head behind a tree I drew back. She took 2 more steps and stopped broadside and looked away. The arrow flew 20 yards and penetrated both lungs and cut the top of her esophagus. She ran 60 yards and took her last breath.
