We have a buck that hangs around the house with a grey patch on his rump. Last year as a yearling he had 4" spikes. This year as a 2.5 year old he is a basic 10 with kickers on both G2s making him a 12 pointer. He will score around 110. Talk about some serious growth in just one year.

Santa has to bring me a cuddeback before I can get pics.
Its the same buck, he has a very distinct grey patch on his rump and he has been in my yard since last year.
The buck ate REALLLY well all winter and now he is showing his potential. Feed them January through March and they will grow.

Imagine what a pig he would be if he could only make it to 3.5 or older!!
I'd love to see him at 4.5 but I doubt he will make it. He is the least cautious deer I have seen. The only thing that saved him last year was APR -zone 6. My son had to p [no swearing please] on him 4 times because he didn't have enough points. [mad]

Thanks that’s a great read, it seems as most of the button and spike bucks in the area I hunt are 7 or 8 pointers by there second year. And by three years there 10 or really big and wide 8 pointers sone even hit 12 by four, but it seem they either go nocturnal or move out of the area and out of reach to people , some return during the rut and man a they heart attack bucks, some even been know the grow double drops. You do get to see them here and there but man are they slick and smart.

This I am nearly certain is the same button buck from last season that was always under my stand, and is still there almost everyday. He feeds and beds down there all day just like last year when he was a fawn.
I will not take him myself, but if my 14 year old daughter decides that she wants to take him as her first deer Im all for it.

And she has said that would be a dream buck and she defiantly wants to hunt him.[up] ;)

He would be a great first deer for a kid.
aren't they all?... I agree...It's a shame they make the kids p [no swearing please] on small bucks.... My first was a small 4 point and it gave me as good of a feeling as any bigger buck I've taken if not better!!!

There is just something about those magical pieces of bone on their heads that give me the best feeling no matter what size they are!!!![up]
