So what's the deal with bear? I'm planning on spending more time in the woods this year in bear country. Do they generally run away from you? Is bear repellent spray a good idea?

Are you supposed to run away from them or charge them and smack them in the face?

anyone ever been attacked. i've never heard a news story about it. antis would be dancin' in the streets.

Bear spray is illegal if it is larger then a ounce.
cabellas sells big cans that shoot 20 ft

you cannot run from a bear, and if you have blood on you, they might think your a tasty treat.

You cannot carry a handgun for protection.

My opinion due what you must to stay safe.I bring my kids hunting with me and I always have blood in my area
I know what I did to stay safe.

Carry a can of bee spray or 2 with you... It shoots 20 feet or better and puts a real hurt'en on the eyes!!!!.... Don't run!!!!! I watched 2 run up the mountain behind my house last week and they looked like friggen gazelles!!!! Those suckers can move!!!!

bring lots of pepper spray! They like their dinner spicy LOL
I have run ins with bears to often. 99.9% of the time it's no problem. Our worst times were when a sow followed us in the dark for over a 1/2 hr grunting & popping her jaws. She made 2 false charges. Another time a friend was in a thicket on his knees. He grab the dogs collar & it shut up. With that the bear slid down the tree, like a fireman on a pole LOL . The bear land on his shoulder flatten him on the ground then took off. At the time it could of went real bad but now we laugh about.
The times you'll need to be on guard is when you have a downed deer or while in standing corn. Then it's a food issue.

Then it's a food issue.
When I yell or throw things at the ones in the yard 99% of the time they will move on except if they have found something to eat...Then 99% of the time they stand their ground, growl, snap their jaws, and bounce up and down on their front paws!!!!! Food is a good thing to avoid around bears!!![tasty]

reminds me of "The Great Outdoors" with John Candy and Dan Akroyd...Big...Big Bear...Big Bear Chase...Big Bear Chase Me....

With my recent ACL surgery, running away wouldn't be an option - I'd just have to hope it slipped on my sh1t!
