Do you also shoot a compound? I would love to shoot traditional, but I am afraid the difference is technique could mess up my compound technique. Any thought?
No...I haven't touched my wheelie bow since Dec 2004....

There are some who shoot both Trad & wheelie bows, Nontypical is one name that sticks out...

A recurve is close to a wheelie bow in handle and draw length, If I was you start with a recurve 40-50# @ your draw length...Beeing over bowed is what turns ppl off from Trad Archery..

First Season hunting at 40 yrs old...I'm a late bloomer [hihi]
Pacific Yew Classic Long Bow

50#@29 1/2" (mydraw)
2 Beaverhair string silencers
30 1/2"BOP PORT ORFORD CEDAR 55-60# homemade

Magnus II 125grn 2-Blade BroadHeads

Now where's my first deer?
:)

You're looking at mid to upper 100's (like 180FPS) out of most trad setups PT. Of course that varies with each setup.

Hunting bow #1:

2004 Ultratec XT2000
Toxonics/Hoyt Vectrix sight (2 pins)
Muzzy Zero effect rest
served nocking point with a loop below arrow
fletcher tru-peep
catwhiskers on the string/cables
Copper John 4 finger eagle release
46# draw weight, 27.25" draw length

Backup hunting bow #2

2003 Ultratec XT3000
HHA optimizer lite sight modified to carry two pins
NAP QT4000 drop-away rest
(it doesnt have the new red/white/blue strings on it yet but it will probably be set up similar to the other bow in regards to loop, peep, etc.
Stan/Copper John Safeshot 2 finger hinge release

Both bows feature Bucknasty bowstrings: Which you can purchase and have installed through NJH Archery for $75. (currently there is an approximate 2.5 week wait for custom string installation) NJH Archery

I'll be shooting Easton Carbon Evolution shafts with team USA eze crests and 4" LW feathers on the steering end, and 100 grain NAP thunderheads on the business end, out of both setups for hunting.

My one setup should look quite patriotic with the r/w/b strings and r/w/b arrows. I may have to blast Ted Nugents rendition of the Star Spangled Banner after every deer I harvest with it.:D

I used to hunt with between 55-60...but with my shoulder, I just cant shoot that weight.

Im building it back up, but....Its a slow painful process.

A little more than a few weeks ago, 46# was about the max I could draw. Now Ive worked that up to a comfortable shooting weight that I have shot over 120 shots in a day. Im sure I could "draw" 60 or more pounds right now, but I would be very sore, not able to practice enough, and probably would scream in pain during a cold November bowhunt when the muscles just dont want to work. Not to mention, Im really afraid of re-injury. I feel things in my shoulder that I never felt before, and they aint pleasant things...:D:D
