I am looking to goto Newfoundland for a Moose hunt. After years of no luck in the draw in Maine and New Brunswick I am looking to drive to Newfoundland for Moose. I have done research and talked to some outfitters the trip will cost about 3500 to 5000 depending on the outfitter. But in Newfoundland the outfitter has the license. No license draw in Newfoundland. I am looking to drive since the airfare is about 1000 from Newark plus another 1000 to have the meat butchered and shipped. Keep in mind if you want all the meat you are looking at 400 to 500 lbs. Also you can add a Black Bear hunt for 500 to 1500 if you would like. I am looking to go this year but I am open to plan for a 2013 trip.

Sounds like fun, would love to add a woodland caribou to that trip. [up]
i would do some more searching. believe this topic has been up before.i know people that have done it. hunting there can be tough.there are those who get skunked. its not easy to walk on the muskegs there. the best dates are usually taken so you may wanna book years ahead. small racks compared to other area. ive seen a few good racks but to me its more of a meat hunt. getting there you gotta use the ferry and with the drive and fuel prices adding up its not gonna be cheap.

I'm booked for the rut this year in NewFoundland for moose. We are driving up , (wish we were flying), for the sole purpose of getting the meat back. Should be a nice road trip and fun hunt. Shot a couple of black bear already so I will only pull the trigger on one if its huge. The moose are not the size of their Alaskan and Yukon cousins but we know that going up. If this was a real trophy hunt than that's where we would go. You can still get lucky up in NewFoundland with a 50" bull but they are few and far between.

I have eaten Deer, Buffalo, Elk, Bear, Pronghorn, Caribou, and Moose.
Moose is definetly my favorite. And one thing a Moose hunt isn't short of (if you harvest one) is meat. The quality and amount of meat is well worth that kind of money.
If anyone would be kind enuff to part with a couple steaks my belly would surely appreciate it [up]

I hunted new foundland for carribou years ago. One tip is dress in layers and bring rain gear. Walking on that stuff wears you out! bogs , water mud ice in September! I will remeber that hunt for my entire life would not have missed it for anything!

make sure to make the ferry reservations 3 months in advance and be on time for your slot also down load your canada firearms forms make sure you bring a electric 5foot freezer it will fit 1 moose you can plug it in where you stay coming home i have been there shot moose and you will walk many milesin the bogs and eat blueberries they are every where
