have you shot a longbow or a recurve before?
if not i'd start with a 40lb or 45lb. plenty enough for hunting if you choose that route.
for your budget you could probably get a decent recurve on archerytalk. just make sure limbs are straight and/or not warped.

I have a custom Gila long bow I'll sell. Its hand made by the Gila indians in New Mexico. Its only 45lbs. at 29" draw though. My days of pulling back a bow are long since over. Perfect shape...$200.00
