I have a 30 acre piece that I've hunted twice since November and the big bucks are 100% nocturnal. I'm the only one that hunts it, so what gives?
The bucks are nocturnal where YOU hunt. This doesn't mean they are completely nocturnal.

On a very small piece of land like that, those bucks are probably only on your piece for a small percentage of their movement/time.

wish more guys understood that statement. some bucks move a MILE or more to get to where they feed at night. Somewhere along that mile he is moving in the daylight

You're right. It's not always true. But in this state I'd say it's true about 95% of the time. I have a 30 acre piece that I've hunted twice since November and the big bucks are 100% nocturnal. I'm the only one that hunts it, so what gives?
If you have a 30 acre piece that has all they need Food , water and cover , ands pieces around it get hunted hard you should see alot more deer than that piece should normally hold.

sometimes its not the pressure ( which your statement said you didnt) from you as much as someone from next door sneaking in.
This year had alot of issues with a tresspasser causing a very good piece we use as a santuary to become deerless. Was a great bedding area , that this guy pushed so many times it actually has the deer now bedding in the middle of a cow pasture every day.
once we stopped him from coming though it the deer gradually are using that piece again.

Pressure def is what sets one piece apart from another

My FAVORITE statements from this thread so far.

I passed this buck, last season. I was ON him this summer, however, we believe he was poached by a township employee, right before the season started...
I passed this buck last season, but, we think he was poached by trespassing shotgun drivers that we had an issue with.
This buck, I passed last year(even have photos somewhere that I took of him RIGHT UNDER my stand. He was killed by a "slip-in" hunter on a piece of Township land that's closed to hunting, this September.
Thanks Droptine249 all I can say is Thats just so...Jersey!:(

Yea, Jakes, its truly unfortunate. However, if I shot them the year those photos were taken, I would never even have a chance at shooting them when they were big.

All the bucks except for the first one, I passed with the head gear shown. The photos of the first buck were from this season, and, I would stick him in a heartbeat.

Like I sid, I only cRe to spend my tme chasing big bucks, so, if that means passing them and they get poached, well, thats a risk Ive gotta take.
