I'm fairly new to hunting, and I know the guns/callibers are very similar, just curious on some peoples takes... I'm sure this has been discussed at some point or another on here, so I'm not looking to bother or offend anyone just looking for a few tips is all. Thanks.

6 to one 1/2 doz. to the other.
The .270 would be a better choice if your going to hunt deer size game out west and expect far shots over 200yrds since it is a flatter shooting round.
The 06 has more bullet and load choices.
What will be the primary use for this gun, if you give specifics those who really know the ballistics of differant guns will be able to help you better in your choice.

Theres a lot of great reaisons to buy the 3006 but the 270 is a also a good cal. It all depends on how big is the big game you will be hunting. The 3006 will handle the bigest big game better then the 270 but not by much.

the 30 06 is a much more versatile round. you can get bullet weights of 55 grains all the way over 200. the 270 if all u plan to hunt is deer is better because it kicks less and is easier to shoot

Here we go again.[rofl]. Whatever one you can get a better deal on.;)

270, 300, 30.06, .308. Any of them will be fine. Find what you like and can get the best price on.

deermaster I own a .308 a .280 rem and a .300 win mag. the .280 will do anything the .308 will do and it is more accurate. the .300 is just a beast and not fun to shoot

For the foreseeable future, deer...
WHat areas of the country?
If east of the Missisippie what JBB and UM77 said but if your not a big fan of recoil nix the WinMag.

Either will take pretty much any non-dangerous game in North America out to 250-300 yards. Ammo is readily available for both

In that caliber range, I have a couple 30-06, a 270 Weatherby Magnum, 7mm Weatherby Magnum. The downwards range energy of the last two blow away the 30-06. So, I would not take the 30-06 elk hunting because I would expect to have to shoot say 400+ yards. My 12 year old son took a black wildbeast from 250 yards with 30-06 and 165 gr triple shock Barnes, it was dead right there. I don't think you would go wrong with either cal. Just one might be a littel better depending on the game and where you are going to hunt. (Obviously not in NJ with rifle)
