Guys, what are target loads costing you per round? I have never reloaded but thinking about starting with .45s
Not talking about odd rifle calibers, just the more popular handgun rounds. Thanks

reloading is definatley cheaper. i did it a while back for nra rifle comp. using .223 . some advice, some calibers are more complicated to reload than others. for instance, .38 / .357 case length is not to critical. 45acp is finicky with case length because it headspaces off the case length dimension. also be careful with charging cases with powder. because of the small volumes of powder required for pistol ammo you can double charge a case and not notice until you pull the trigger! there is a vid of an m-1 garand (my favorite gun) on here that blows up. i know a lot about garands and using military 30-06 ammo they dont blow up like that. probrably were using reloads. i dont want to scare you but just go slow and learn all you can. any q's feel pree to pm me.

angel youcan find load cost programs online for free.
you need to buy in bulk to save money, save your brass
any any brass you can get that will save you $$.
I did it for a long time any questions call/text me.

.45 ACP is probably the most forgiving case to reload because of its design and the low pressures it operates at. Low pressures mean less brass flow or case-stretching. .45 ACP has minimal stretch and you will throw out cases with case-mouth cracks or expanded primer pockets before you ever need to trim them for length. The beauty of reloading is you can tailor loads to your firearm for both function and accuracy. Each weapon has its "sweet spot" when it comes to a particular load when it comes to accuracy. More so with a rifle but you will find likes and dislikes with ammo in a pistol as well. Just use quality components and you will do fine. It's an enjoyable pastime.

Yes, you do need to be cognizant when reloading fast-burning pistol powders because a double charge of Bullseye or Unique in a case will ruin your day quickly.

Thanks guys. I plan on shooting IDPA every month with some range time in between since my wife FINALLY has shown interest in shooting a handgun! My name should be coming up at Shongum soon.
I plan to shoot for the rest of my life so at 37, I think the investment will be worth it;)
I'd like to reload .45 to start, and if my wife takes a liking to range time, then add .38 and .357

I'm sure that you knew this, but just in case.
Shongum doesn't do IDPA as far as I know, they do IPSC. The "sucky" part about doing any of those types of shooting, is that you seldom are able to recover all of the brass that you fire.
Other than that, it is great and humbling practice. You can also find some deals online for bulk pistol ammo that is very competitive to reload prices. It's a good idea to do both initially, until you build up your brass count.

angel let me know if you need a 1911 rigg i got one i dont use hoster, belt, mag holders.yours to use if you need them.

Angel,

I just got my dies for .45 acp this week and loaded my first batch. The approximate cost per round is below.

Powder - 0.02/rnd
Primer - 0.04/rnd
Bullet - 0.16/rnd
total, excl brass 0.22/rnd

I am shooting Berry's plated 185 grn Semi Wad cutters, and making the Major Power Factor (for IPSC) with about 5.1 grains of Bullseye.

I shot the IPSC last weekend at Shongum, first time ever and it was WAY cool. I shot single stack, Major with my .45. Extremely different than shooting bullseyes, and WAY more fun! I too am about to kick off IDPA at Somerset County FGPA. Let me know if you need sponsorship to get in the club. Tom

Just got my 9mm setup from Tika, gonna start it up soon. Look at precisiondelta.com for bullets, Ive been hitting up some pistol sites and heard they are pretty good. Free shipping on 2000+ prices are pretty inexpensive.

Tika I ordered the tubes and case slide It was cheap like $9 .

ducati email pm me your email I have a whole bunch of reloading info in PDF form. M

Angel,

I've been reloading for close to 40 yrs.

There is a savings which can vary from time to time according to the cost of components and which ones you use.

But I find the other major advantage is being able to tailor a load for each weapon I load for. Ex is my .45-70 load I use in my 18.5" Guide Gun. Without spending BIG $$ for a similar round I wouldn't be able to shoot the rounds I do in it.

I just started setting up my reloading bench this weekend. Everything has been sitting in the garage since we moved.
Got 2 of my Dillons set up along with my RCBS Rockchuker.
With the temps well below 0 for a few days it will be something to stay inside and do. LOL

Any questions feel free to contact me.
