First of all I usually dont shop at dick's because i would rather suppport the local sportshop. I have been to dicks in the past just for them to say they are out of ammo or i stood around waiting to get help behind the counter. Believe me, its hard sometimes to stay away because of the large good priced selection that they generally carry. Also in my area the sportshops are few and far between so sometimes on a sunday you got to do what you got to do. I walked into dicks today to pick up some ammo (12g 2-3/4 6 shot h/b), so after waiting for 10 minutes this very cold attitude hippy looking guy walks over and says in a very low voice "what u need". I told him what i want and he says " your beat" we only have low brass which i dont want. I say do you have anything at all in high brass, any gauge? he says "like i said your beat" we are out. So i said "no your beat because thats the last time i come and waist my time". anyway, i go to dover ski and sport and ask the guy what ammo he has in stock. He said "how many boxes do you want and which brand do you want". So i told him what i wanted and we bull-shitted for awhile talking about hunting and stuff. My point is you cant beat the service and friendship from the mom and pop places. Its a shame that this place is for sale, once it sells that will be another local place to bite the dust because of superstores like dicks. I know money is money but for the few extra bucks its well worth spending it all the local shop.

repoman, If I were you I would call Dicks corporate office. I went thru an identical situation, I was pissed, called and complained and they were shocked. Ended up getting store card, and saw some quick changes, but I do not go near the ammo counter anymore. I will buy from Meltzers or go to Cabelas when I visit Mom in Pa.

Please dont let this guy get away with that attitude.

[down] Dick's is an example of a mass merchandiser that has cookie cutter service and advertising. Take a look at their AD's. Why would you advertise a Predator Rifle in NJ? Alot of other examples too. They basically ship the same crap to every store and sell out of some and get stuck with the rest. Poor management. I saw Hornady Superformance 00 Buck ammo on the shelf there and asked to see it. The guy was surprised when I asked for it because he said "I didn't even know I had it". He's been working there a long time. It's a sign of the times. Poor pay equals poor service.

I won't shop at Dicks either.

A couple of years back I wanted to buy a .22 rifle for my son. Dicks was having a good sale at the time, so I went to the nearest store, which happened to be in PA. I looked at a couple of rifles and had decided on one. The kid at the gun counter filled out all the paperwork, checked my FID and sent me up to the register to pay for the NICS check. When I came back the kid got a manager to run the NICS check and complete the sale. When the manager came out and found out I was a NJ resident he said, "sorry, we can't sell to non-PA residents". He said it was "company policy". I told the manager that since Dicks apparently didn't want my money, I would gladly spend a little bit more at a local gun shop that would be happy to have my business.

I have not set foot in a Dicks store since.

[mad] They screwed me over by not honoring coupons that they sent me a few years ago. And you can never find any help in the store if you need it. They stock the fishing section once per season. By June most of the racks are empty....I haven't gone back since.....[down][down][down]
