Tomski you talking about showing it just to look at the rifle. Or not showing it to buy the rifle.

Any were you buy a long arm outside of NJ, at a license dealer the same rules apply as in NJ.

Stopped at Gander Mountain in Chambersburg, PA last week, on way back from a trip to Georgia. Was looking at a .410 Mossberg 500 for my 11 year-old as a starter shotgun (he's on the small side), and asked gun dept. manager what the requirements were for an NJ resident to buy in PA.

He said all he needed to see was my NJ driver's license, and away we'd go...not exactly a quotable authority, but he'd likely know.

If I'm wrong I stand corrected. But I have been to license dealers in PA and was told that I need to have my FIC and a Photo license. He told me that the law of NJ applies any were I go.
Last year I was at my Mother and Sister house in Roswell, Georgia. I went to a gun shop and they had the Remington 308, scope the strap. They were asking 375 for it. I told him I take it. He ask for my drivers license, he went in the back and told me that the laws of the state of NJ apply here also. The reason of course I was not a resident of GA. He told me other wise he just run the nic and I would be on my way.

I know NJ is rediculous with what you have to do to buy a Gun. But does anyone think its maybe too easy in other states. Some kind of background should be done. At least thats my opinion.
What do you guys think.

I feel it should be easy for law abiding citizens to buy and carry a weapon, but, make one mistake and your done and I mean done.

i have the NJ FID, so if i have to show that in PA or any other state, that indicates that the police have already did the background check and another background check should not have to be done...at least in my opinion...

Democrats, however, should not be able to purchase firearms.

rev214, i have purchased many shotguns and rifles in pa in the recent past. these purchases were in local gun shops and an instant check was made with me driver lic and nj firearms purchaser id card only. the ffl is for pistol purchase. some gun shops will not sell to nj res because they chose not to because of past hassels on book keeping with the atf or they inturpert the law wrong or had bad past experances. you must have a nj firearms purchaser id card anyway if you are starting out so get it. if a store is willing to sell to you any other way watch out and make sure you get all the paper work and dont get stoped in nj on your way home for speeding or some other traffic stop. you will need the nj id then. even in nj when a store displayes guns a person with a ffl must be present or the guns must be covered if the store is open for bussines
