They seldom "sleep" the way you and I think of sleep. Eyes shut, completely unaware of their surroundings. It happens from what some people say, but....

They mostly just "rest" for short periods of time. And they do doze off for a little bit at a time.

I study natural deer movement in my woods year round (no bait or anything to attract them) and I see deer bed down and tuck their head in and close their eyes for about an hour or so sometimes.

They may be asleep, but they are still aware enough that if you were to try and walk up on them they will become alert.

I have pix of some of them sleeping if I can dig them up.

I've watched them bed down for an hour or two ,get up walk a ways and lay back down. Seems like they only bed for a few hours then thee back at it. More like napping than sleeping. They down to chew their cud but that can't be counted, I don't think. In the heat they'll lay dormant as you and I would. Ps. After I watch them lay down and then get up, most leave but not all.[patcheye]

I had quite a few bed down near my stand this year. Walk up the ridge , stop at 40 yards and its nap time. Had others walk up, see this, and join him[cry]Had a couple drowsy laying down on the cam but the yotes woke them up[ko] We've had a lot of yote activity and I'm starting to think they didn't get much sleep at night. I was getting yote pics every 2 hours during the night in Nov.[spy]
