well i have had a very tough season so far, missed 2, hit 1 that i didnt recover, i figured my season was over as far as a nice buck, well i usually hunt in z26, i had a nice buck showing up in z42 so i bought my z42 bow permit, well figures he disapears. i didnt want to waste my permit so i scouted a new area where i figured i can harvest a doe, found alot of sign, some rubs, scrapes and some big runs coming out of the swamp and hung a stand in the rain the other day.
got into the stand this morningat 5:30, jumped a deer near my stand and figured i wouldnt see anything. at first light i hear deer running aways out upwind of me, knew they didnt smell me. at 7:00 i hear a deer walking in front of me, then see him 50yds out, he comes within 40yds and woulda walked right by me. i let out 2 soft grunts and he stops and turns textbook right to me. he walked right by me at 15 yds, i drew back and let out a soft "mah", settled behind the shoulder and he crashed thru the laurels 40yds and he was down. as i was trying to control myself i hear another deer walking and see antlers moving 50yds away thru the laurels, it prob was a bigger buck but i couldnt be happier. not a monster but a great buck for the area and after the season i been having hes a monster to me. this was on public land which gets driven like crazy.
