k, im just leaving ohio, the area ive hunted for the past 12 years and every year its the same thing....big bucks running in open fields. 100+ yard shots. What does the peanut gallery think? What kind of lead do you put on a deer that running with slugs/muzzleloader? I know there a lot of factors that contribute but I'm looking for a rule of thumb.

Last year in PA dead run 125yrds down he went.This year Pa almost the same distance hes still running.It was Luck for me
My Dad was great at hitting running deer, he used to say "shoot them like ducks" he would swing through and shoot just as he saw daylight infront of the deer. I saw him dump several on a dead run, never saw him miss or wound one. I wait for them to stop.

My father was a .308 guy dumped many a deer on the run. Md close with buckshot i am good. 100 yards on the run not me!

I have only shot at running deer while in my stand as they have come running underneath or in the brush 10 yards out during drives. With 00 buckshot.

I think its best to wait till the deer stops first than take the shot its safer also.

spray and prey wit buckshot for me . i had deer running once in pa at 80 yards with the 35 marlin didnt take the shot to risky

try moving your spot to get in range that should only take a year or two[smoke]

There really no option to sit ans wait. The areas we hunt are wide open soy/corn fields. The small wood lots hold deer but are a half mile from the road. So guys stand the upwind side a mile from woods while a lone driver walks to the woods. Kind of like rabbit hunting big brush plies. Its so different then NJ. Deer are few and far. But big..real big

Can you hit a still soccer ball easily offhand at that distance? Now picture someone kicking the soccer ball and then hitting it. Unless you are practicing a lot, I wouldn't shoot.
