well we are heading out in the am,up near splitrock res.he shot the Savage 220 20 ga like a champ from an improvised range leaning on a tree for extra support, put 3 in a space the size of a beer can after 2 warm up shots." it's just like Call of Duty with the sniper rifle Dad". I have a good ground blind with a good field of fire and a small tree to use for support.I told him if it's legal and you want to eat it,shoot it,"right in the boiler room ,right dad? pop a lung, blow up the heart or break a shoulder right?(Jesus, the kid knows more about taking down a deer at 11 than I did at 14)
Good Luck to all the other 1st time dads out there,I hope you didn't blow it like I did and forget to get the Taylor ham for breakfast.

Old indian prayer...

"May your sons (and daughters) shoot better than you!"[ko]

My biggest lesson taking kids hunting; It's for them, make sure they have fun and don't push them too much. If they get hungry-feed them, if they get fidity- let them move, if they get cold-take them for a walk, if they want to go-take them home. Make it fun for them.

I know too many guys that ruin it for the kid, and them, by pushing too hard.

we didn't get a deer his first time out but I consider it a success because he wants to go again.

You are absolutely right with that attitude. This was Matt's third Youth Day and his first harvest.

Congratulations to you both [up][up][up]

Thanks Ms. Grit, there is a down side to it,that beautiful new Savage 220 20 ga in his hands is mine,I've had it for over a year and still haven't hunted with it and he's already called Dibs on it for firearm season so I'm going to have to use my Muzzy.LOL
