First week Zone 3, been out 3 times. 10/1 had 4 doe come down the mountain toward my stand. Didn't range them and shot under one of the bigger 2. Getting a little deseprete. saw bear the next couple times out. I hope its not like last year, see deer on the opener then all bear until it got cold. Bear eat everything so I can't even target the few deer with bait.

its been a little slower than normal for me this year here........ cant seem to find any oaks producing a good amount of acorns...... i think its been a bit to warm so far..... the end of the week/weekend cools down, should see more movement soon

Sat last evening, a big doe and her kid came down at 6:26 for some wild apples. Shot over the kid, walked to the spot and found the perfectly clean white crested arrow. Shooting at the whole deer, this years issue.

Is there away deer bait that the bear may not be interested in? I got to do something to make the deer stand around for a bit.

I think any deer bait will be bear bait.

Unless you have a "food plot" like Throw n' grow or something like that. Not sure if the bears would eat the vegetation, my guess is that they will if theyre hungry enough. Just like the deer that ate my deer resistant plants in fron of my house.

you guys are right no sense baiting up there. best bait would be a deer curiosity scent, and than as the rut kicks in sexual attractant. just make sure the curiosity scent is deer based and not acorn or food based.

only been up to zone 3 twice, haven't seen any deer, but rubs and fresh tracks galore.

Thanks for the suggestions. You still have to be careful with sents. I usually drag a sent rag in November. Bear will follow the deer sent until they pick up human. I hate when they stand there looking up a you with those beady eyes, undecided.

kuz, zone 3 New Jersey's big woods hunting. In winter you can follow a deer track for hours.

Yeah I had a couple of those "he's gotta be over the next rise" moments and spend time climbing and slowly peering out only to see the tracks disappear over the next hill. After a couple of hours of this you get to a road, call a buddy to give you a ride back to your car that's parked five miles away and call it a day :)

Sounds like a good day regardless of the results.

I have not seen the deer in zone 3 either. When I was scouting I saw deer every day. Even mid day when it was ot and I was hanging stands we saw deer on the way in or out. Once the regular season started they shut down. I have 4 cameras out with no bait. Lots of deer tracks very few deer now.

The last 3 days has been on fire in zone 3. I have seen more quality bucks then I have in a long time. Some big bucks running does. Not respondng to grunt, bleats, rattling. or scents. They are running the does hard. Watched a big buck chasing 7 does at 3:00pm yesterday afternoon. Going back out now and hope one screws up [up]
