[rofl]I got done work a little early so I thought I would go and call deer. So I get into the stand at 5:30 wait about 5 mins and start off with a 3 series doe in heat, followed by a buck tending grunts, wait a min then go into a buck hard grunt and start hitting the racks hard, rattled and grunted for about five mins and stopped. checked the watch 5:45 at 5:50 I hear a snap out in front off to the left then I hear water splash off to the front right. there is movement in the swamp I can hear the deer on the left side trying to get down wind of me but really can't because of the brush and the deer to the right can't get down wind because of a opening. That deer is in the water out about 30 yards in some real think stuff and the other deer work down to that deer, I hear water splash then nothing. 6:00 It is a stand off for 3 hours, well it was really 15 mins but felt like 3 LOL I can't see any thing I cant hear anything I look at the watch 6:15 I think man I am hearing things so I move to get a better look see, and then right in front of me 30 yards out I see white flag raise and the nasty sound of air a doe turns and starts to move off then 2 more right there do the same. I blow at them and they blow back this went on for 4 or 5 times each blowing at each other then all is qt. I just start laughing at my self and said you know better, rookie mistake well i wish it ended there, I dragged a line into the stand when i came in. but because i was calling I broke some of my never break rules one never drag through thick stuff where you can't get a shot on a trailing deer. 2. NEVER drag to the back side of the stand with out making a j hook out about 15 yards so you have a clean shot and they are out there so you can draw. well you guessed it here he comes nose to the ground in thick stuff on my back side, he is moving so fast that I start to draw when he is 8 yards out behind me before he breaks cover at the base of my tree, he hears either my arrow moving across my rest or my bones snapping from trying to pull a bow back real slow and freezes well 2 hours of holding back full draw well maybe not that long but I was shaking I let it down real slow at which he slowly turned and backed out I dropped my head and shock it wait it ain't over yet the deer that was out front in the water that I forgot about saw me move now and he ran off the other way I just started laughing at my self and said out loud you look like a green horn LOL looked at my watch 6:34 I got out of the stand LOL

Oh guys don't think I am upset I am not, been in this game far to long to worry about kills. it is hunts like this that make a person better. see the mistakes and change. I still hunted this morning had a doe and fawn with 25 yards no problem let it go and had 2 little fawns again let them go. the kill ends the hunt the hunt teaches and makes better.
you know I have been calling deer for over 25 years calling predators over 35 years and around age of ten started to call birds and what ever. ( I am not saying how many years ago that was)[rofl] Calling is more than getting them to come,it is trying to figure out where they are going to come to and put your self there.
I messed up on the calling because a assumed that they would not go into the water to get down wind. but rather swing around the other way which I had COVERED[hihi] what I did not think about was, the area that they went to, they could see where I was, it was higher ground looking over to me. I assumed wrong[rofl] then I broke more rules with the drag, rules that I made years ago never to break[rofl] and scolded so many so far this year for doing the same thing [rofl] (Do as I say not as I do)
I have seen when calling with snow how deer came into me checked me out and left and I never knew it until I walked back out and found the tracks. or stand up and there they go[rofl] I think if a person see deer 1or2 out of every 6 to 8 times when blind calling they are doing good. Most call deer in and never know it. I will admit still hunting and blind calling is easier with a gun[rofl] and when the leaves are off the trees.
