A friend of mine does this on certain properties. He sets up a dumby stand that he never hunts.Make it easy for them to find. Then set up your stand in the thickest stuff you can find.It works pretty good he tells me.No one messes with his real setup but they do screw with his dumby stand

get a climber and pick out a couple dif spots you like.sometimes public land is like musical chairs.

pros of a climber
1- like delvalhunter said no one knows were you are unless they are inspecting trees for climber damage. (pines are very noticable)another good idea is to get a cheap gps to find your spots. that eliminates bright eyes or trail markers. also you can mark other peoples spots so you can set up a good distance from them.
2- they re safer going up your always connected to the tree
3- no need for lugging all your sticks/spikes/stand or etc everytime shit like this happens. youll have piece of mind knowing your free as a bird to go where ever.
ex. last week i went to one of my climber trees and someone was 40 yards from me, no big deal, no getting pissed cuz now you dont have a stand i just set coarse for climber tree 2 and so on.
4- very comfortable

cons
1- takes longer to unpack and pack before and after hunt( so what )
2- you have to carry it in and out (big deal)
3- above 65 degrees be prepared to sweat

anyone else feel free to add ..hope this helps

Climbers are sinfully noisy but they are all I've used for the last 25 yrs due to the pro's listed above by haze406. Noise can be minimized by leaving the hand climber strapped to the bottom section when you attach the bottom to the tree. Use your hip to hold it in place while puting the cable around the tree. Then unstrap the hand climber and fasten that to the tree. Do the reverse when leaving.
