well, i watched this buck for 2 months on my cam. he came in with 3 other shooter bucks every day 4 times a day, daybreak, 11pm, 3pm, 5pm like clockwork. every day all until a week and a half ago. In the past week and a half he was there 2 times.. (which is still pretty good odds).. but 2 of the other shooter bucks(the smaller 2) were comming 2x a day still...
so i got in my stand (1st time im ever hunting this property) and i decided the 1st shooter that steps out is getting it
.. well, the 1st one was right in front of this one (the 2 biggest of the 4 shooters).. and they came in 5 yards away, i let him get to 25 yards and i whacked him broadside with a 2blade rage. he ran 30 yards, stopped, stood there for a sec, and laid down. the other buck goes by him, checks him out, then comes back to the corn for a half hour!!! i wanted 2 get down, but didnt wanna spook him, i want my brother to hunt my stand this weekend to try for one of the others..
anyway, he now gets up, walks 30 more yards and lays back down... now im thinking this is terrible... i think i gut shot it..
i get down, check my arrow, doesnt look good. i see him get up and slowly walk away.. i wait 4 hours texting everyone i know for advise.. it was the longest 4 hrs of my life! i then go back in to where i last seen him, no blood.
body search as slow/quiet as i could .. another 50 yards and i found him piled up
amazing hunt.. and lesson learned: LEAVE A DEER ALONE FOR A FEW HOURS IF UNSURE ON THE HIT OR YOU WILL PUSH IT AND NEVER FIND IT.
Here are a few pics, before/after
