ive had two torn tendons in my ankle, tendonitis in my elbow twice, shoulder once, a torn labrum and a jacked up hip. your best bet is to really rest it. its tough when you have so much work to do. if i were you i would ice it every night before bed. i ice my elbow for 20 minutes with an ice block, dixi cup full of water frozen works great. right onto the skin. move it around so it doesnt damage the nerves and cells. do it until its numb to the touch. ive done PT 5 times and they tell me this every time. i work with Somerset Patriots pt staff. hope you get this all worked out. if not buy a crossbow haha [up]

Oh Danny where to start hahaha!

Years ago I tore my rotator cuff training for a bodybuilding competition right before the season opener...that was a gun only season for me.

A couple years ago I tore my MCL/ACL in my left knee which really screwed alot of my hunting up. No climbers or tree hunting and limited field hunting due to walking in the woods.

The year after I injured my back and slipped a few disks which was killer on the cold all day sits. That left me to only hunting a few hours at a time before my back would lock up.

Last year I dislocated my left knee walking out of the woods which was fun!

In this off season I tore all my erector spinae again while working...rehabed that pretty good. Than I tore my bicep 8 weeks ago I also have sever tendonitis of the left elbow that just haunts me! Man pretty shitty few years eh?

How has it changed my hunting...it has made me much more adaptable to all scenarios. Ive learned to hunt from the ground as well as the tree, Ive learned to stalk and still hunt much better due to not being able to sit in one spot to long, I have learned to shoot in various forms to manage different injuries. I find them all life altering injuries for the better.

last year i tore the cartlidge in my knee and had to use crutches. i spratpainted them camo so i could make the 400 yrd trip to my blind. i couldnt use my ladderstands until buckweek. thanks to my son bone collector85 for dragging my 5 pointer the 400 yrds to my truck and he even butchered it up for me. it pays to have a great kid who will do what is needed for me to be able to hunt last year. my rotor cuff is shot but that only bothers me when its damp or really cold. then i go to the darkside and grab the xbow[lol][lol]

Yea Tom, rough few years for you for sure. Tore my ACL and MCL years ago and just tore the miniscus in the same knee a couple months back, always like to still hunt but last few years, even more so for the same reason as you.

Dude...TMI, I don't even want to know [hihi]

just drop the poundage on your bow you be amazed how well you shoot at 45-50 lbs
Did that, I'm around 60# now, down from about 67#. I'd need new limbs to go lower but at 60, things feel pretty good. Between dropping the draw weight and really bracing up the elbow and wrist, I'm good to go but it took a combination of things.

fish_hunter, I am already the master of my domain [hihi] That looks like it would be effective. I do 6 different rehab excercises to strenghthen surrounding muscles and that started helping but then too much usage was just defeating the rehab. Thanks for the link, I think I'm gonna buy it, $25 for all 3 is a small price to pay for the benefits.

You all are spooking me and I don't spook easy.I have told myself that even though I am an old man at 58 with all sorts of health issues I'm fighting it all and going back to sticks. I had to bow down and I live on pain meds so I can shoot sticks again. I been doctoring 3 to 5 days a week with Chiopracter who has really been helping and losing weight again to try to get healthier. When I fell on 2-3-11 on ice and broke my elbow and buggered up my hip that was replaced 4 years ago I thought it was the end. Now with the help of the bone cracker he fixing things so that I can at least manage and still work. He told me to stop shooting because of the carpel tunnel the fall brought on but I said no way so you have to deal with the pain. Theres good days and bad days any one thats been hurt knows that.

Tuff up like when you were a pup and do the best through it.

I had my right knee replaced 6 weeks ago and I'm planning to be in my tree stand in Oct.
If I can't I'll definitely be there for the rut.
Better be carefull just cause you feel ok like you can do it you should take extra precautions. I had a torn menicus in a knee years ago. I shoot a dear my freind with me gos to get my truck while I drag him out. I ask my buddy to help me get the deer over this swale when he gets back and just that quick i go into a low spot and tear it again. Dr. told me don't do certain things and I didn't listen just like now no differant and you get rehurt. For some its just the way it is.

Dr. told me don't do certain things and I didn't listen
[rofl][rofl][rofl] Sounds familiar. My elbow was so bad a few months ago, I couldn't hold my coffee mug with my arm bent at 90 degrees. Decided it was time for a cortisone shot and as the Dr is giving me the shot, he said to rest it, no heavy lifting and do the rehab. I told him I just got 7 cu yds of mulch delivered that I need to spread and he said not to but I didn't listen. That's why he's the Doctor and I'm the idiot triple wrapping my elbow just so I can abuse it some more.

I had hunted 2 opening day gun seasons with 3 broken bones in my ankle from 2 days prior. I staggered about 75 yards into the woods and just sat down.

I got a 6 pt out of it:D

My injuries, aside from my back going out or recovering from a recent surgery/acute injury, don't begin to affect my hunting until it gets cold out. I've been really tough on my body for my whole life' Military, racing motocross, extreme sports, fighting, they've all contributed.

I've had 4 surgeries on 1 knee over the past decade after blowing it out, for the first time, when I was 17, while racing motocross.

I blew my lower back apart in the Marine Corps.

I've torn a rotator cuff, separated both A/C joints and broken both clavicles.

I shattered my ankle, subluxed my patella, cracked my hip(acetabulum), and, in the same incident, shredded the muscles in my lower back (which was probably the worst pain I've ever felt).

I cracked a few bones in my hand and wrist.

The list goes on, and, they all show their ugly face every now and again, especially on the first really cold days of the year.

They are what the are and I wouldn't go back and change anything if I could, because, all of these injuries were sustained while engaging in activities that I love. Also, I have a constant prescription for whatever pain meds I so choose to use. During cold winter hunts, I throw back a handful of pills and head to my stand :)
