i had a 2010 silverado that shut off 4 cyls on highway...honestly didnt do crap still was getting 17 on highway ended up getting totaled in a bad wreck and have a 05 witha 5.3 i lifted it put 35 inch mud terrains on it headers and dual exhaust still get 17....

I have a 2010 silverado 1500 4x4 ext cab 8' bed with the 5.3 at work that gets about 21-22 on the highway and about 18 average city/highway. That is the best mileage I've ever gotten with a gas engine full size 4x4. My previous work truck was a dodge with the 4.7 that struggled to get 14 on the highway and got about 10 anywhere else. While I think chevy is going downhill on a lot of stuff their fuel mileage is probably best in class.

It will take a little while to get your money back on a diesel ..... I think a diesel engine package bumps the price up $8000 on the F250's.

What does diesel fuel cost? ... about the same as premium gasoline?

Whenever the day comes that I get a new pickup, I think I'm going to get a diesel, though.

Good luck.

05 dodge diesel and i get 21 mpg avg through a tank of gas with a mix of Hwy and around town. Seems all the newer diesels get worse milage .

if you get either a drive alot then spend the money on upgrades that let the truck breath , exhaust and intake will make a big difference.

Unfortunately, the new 6.4 diesel is not nearly as fuel efficient.Stay away from the "No go 6.0", especially an 03 or 04.
I have a 2003(manufactued Aug.03) Excursion with a first generation 6.0 Auto 3.93 rears. It weighs 7800lbs empty. I get 18 local and 20-22 on highway(depends on speed/RPM's) 16 on highway towing.. After ERG clogged twice I removed it. Had turbo rebuilt once. I have over 155,000 miles on it. Everyone tells me I must have gotten a god one. I know deisel mechanics that refuse to work on the 6.0

On a second note is anyone looking for a Superchip programmer for early 2003? It will need to be sent back to service for an upgrade.

Diesel in Edison on route 1 is $3.87
yup mixed with water, that place is always selling bad gas..
your looking for a full size truck dont worry about the gas

I average 17.3 mpg per tank in my '09 F150 with the 5.4liter motor. That's daily driving, some highway, mostly around town.
On road trips, where I average about 75-80 mph, I get around 19-21mpg depending on where I buy my gas. On South Carolina gas I get 23mpg.. NO MTBE or other crap in their fuels!

You can look it up on the net real easy. I just did and the top was the Ford, then chevy, the dodge is not far behind ,and the toyota behind that. The difference between them is just a couple mpg. The fuel thats being pumped out right now sucks and doesnt do any good for mileage and remember the mpg listed is an estimate based on computer testing. Real world driving is gonna be a bit different. I think it really matters how much you put your foot in it and the places you drive....mountain area or flat land ....city or highway. All full size trucks suck down fuel .Its a matter of which one you like and wanna pay for. I have a 2001 1500 silverado and an 2006 f350 super duty. I like them both for different reasons.I like deisels for the power and long life but the fuel cost is just as bad as gas.And ever since they put computer controls on them the repair costs are insane. I would stick with gas unless you really need a h.d. tow vehicle.
