Black Bear Study - Not the Mama Bears

I have always said this. After bear hunting for 30+ years and doing a little guiding in Quebec, I have had more Bad encounters with 2-3 year old bears than the older bigger ones. They are like 16-18 year olds with beer muscles and bad attitudes. LOL. You figure, they get kicked out by momma at age 2 and have to find and fend for themselves, getting their butts kicked everywhere they go. When they finally find an area that they call theirs, especially with a bait in it, they will fight for it.

Remember, 9 out of 10 bears will run away, but you never know when that 10th bear is standing in front of you.

I dunno how you guys up north hunt mornings. I would be sceered s^%tless going in in the dark. [cry]

tell that to the bears i bumped into the past 3 weeks, including 2 mamas with cubs. none ran away, all stood their ground. no bluff charges, but way too close for my comfort. I've only had one bear run away ever.

Typical NYT BS

If you Google "bear attacks" a list comes up that documents almost 63 since the 1970's. Then consider how accurate the documentation or lack of it was in the '20's and '30's the number of fatal black bear attacks in the last 109 years is at least double the NYT number. That comes down to more than one attack per year.

The NYT article was about BLACK bears only ... with the info coming from the latest issue of the Journal of Wildlife Management.

The NYT article said the Black Bear problem has become much worse in recent times .... implying that hunting is necessary.
