Just picked up a 10' Pelican fishing kayak, its drab green and very light. Today I'm going to do some stencils on it and start working on a PVC frame for the blind I'm going to build for it. I'll post pictures tonight, anyone here hunt from a kayak? Anybody else build a blind for one? I'm looking for ideas on the blind material.
Thanks

best off just having bungee straps and putting stuff from the area your hunting on it.
Blends in better, and less apt to become unstable, and allows you to move quicker to recover birds

Maybe I'll do the netting with the slits in it so I can put brush in them. how do you guys attach the netting to the kayak?

The blind i want to build will be low but i want to put 2 beams on the outside of the kayak next to were I sit with those floating pool noodle's to make it more stable, do you guys ancor your kayaks when you hunt with them or no? i was thinking of ideas for that but i cant do things to risk stability and I dont wanna make it hard to retrieve birds.

Good idea with the ancor [up] I'm going to do that.
As far as shooting goes I'm going to be shooting towards the bow but I was tossing around the idea of the stabilizer floats on the blinds frame so help when swinging the gun to shoot.

I hunt from mine all the time... but it is a very different design. Its 10 feet long and 3 feet wide... very stable. Ive had 500 lbs in it without taking on water. My advice... take it out to any lake, river, creek, pond, whatever you're going to hunt well before this fall. Go in a bathing suit and life jacket and try to tip it... I know it sounds funny but I'm serious, test he capability of the boat and its boyancy when it doesnt really matter... the last thing you want is to end up tipping in sub zero temps.

Also, get yourself a floating gun case... and tie a string inside your kayak to the sling swivel stud of your shotgun buttstock. If you tip while paddling atleast you wont lose your gun since the case floats... and if you tip while stationary and the gun is out of the case, you wont lose it since its tied to the boat.

Thats an awesome kayak aftermath, looks like a cool design.
Yeah, its pretty cool... heavy but awesome. I can tow it behind my powerboat... I paddle into small ponds, up creeks, etc with a few dekes, my gun and my dog... and I use it as a layout boat too. It wasnt cheap, but worth every penny

I'll post up pic of my boat from a website sice I didnt take pics of it yet.
its a sit inside model, its not made for hunting its actually a "fishing" model but I feel comftable laying down low in it.
Have you hunted a bay in your kayak aftermath?
I'm looking to use mine for the bay and small ponds and creeks.

QB thats a great website..thanks for posting that up. I always thought about making some sort of frame work for my camo, but never couldn't come up with a design.
I would just attach mine directly to the boat via tie down points.

Yes but not as a stand alone boat... Ive towed it out from the boat launch with my powerboat and used it as a layout boat or dragged it up on shore to use as a laydown blind. My buddy has the same pod as me and we have run out from the launch before towing both full of dekes and put out an enormous spread that the birds hadnt seen over water before. But I bet a kayak would work perfectly in the sedge islands and off of Island Beach SP.

I never hunted Island Beach but would like too, were I hunt I feel pretty safe in a kayak, I used to use my flat bottom john boat and only use my trolling motor to get me there, worked well getting from launch spot to hunt spot, retrieving ducks and getting me back to the truck.
I recently went to Cattus Island to hike with my girlfriend and was curious if hunting was allowed by permit or something cause its a really nice place and seems like it'll be good to hunt i just didnt want to ask the receptionist at the info center because there was kids around and I didnt want to bring attention to myself and killing ducks.

and as for the site dbowers, I found it about a month ago and really like the design, although i have a sit in style kayak i have the fishing pole holders that I want to use to mount the pvc frame.
