A former anti-hunting animal rights female co-worker posed that question to me at a corporate lunch one time at a table full of my co-workers after somebody asked me about my turkey hunting. I had always suspected she was an anti as her car had an "animal liberation" licence plate holder on it. "I am a hunter", I replied, as I looked her straight in the eye with a glaring look. The tone of her voice did not sit well with me. She got the hint and changed the topic of conversation in a hurry.

Thats not the type of argument you want to get into in a corporate environment.
I've worked in the corporate environment and had people ask me the same questions. I've simply asked them if they eat meat, most say yes, and then ask what's the difference between what they do and what I do. Usually they shut up really quick. And, there's no argument.

Arguing with them and trying to defend my position on hunting is what they want
This is what Ive been saying on this site for a while. Everytime someome mentions " I hate Anti's" and goes on a Anti rant. Its exactly what the Anti is looking for. It gives them recognition. Just ignore them.

I have this dingbat at work who is a vegeterian. I have convinced her that hunting is necessary to control deer populations.

This one was a vegetarian. Arguing with them and trying to defend my position on hunting is what they want. I will NEVER defend my position on a legal activity.
Actually arguing with them with other people present is a good thing. It is called polemics. The other people get to see the logic of your argument and the absurdity of the wacko point of view. They can then decide for themselves.

Even a vegetarian kills something (or has someone kill it for them) in order to eat.

Vegetables are living things. deprive them of water, sun, or the nutrients of the soil, and you will slowly see them wilt and die. In other words - they lose life. They must be able to feel this loss of life because they go through a physical change (the turn colors, they wilt, they lose leaves, etc.) Perhaps they even feel a form of pain.

My point - let's not give vegetarians the opportunity to escape the fact that they too murder in order to survive. A vegetarian is as much a killer as a meat eater. A vegetarian must kill a living thing in order to survive, just as much as a meat eater.

Killing is killing. We should all make sure that we hold vegetarians accountable for their "killing" the way they do for our killing. They make their argumant very convenient to their cause by stating a vegetable's life is worth less than a cows. It also allows them to feel more "enlightened" than those those of us who aren't vegetarians. I'm not so sure the vegetable would agree with their position - it's just that vegetables don't have vocal cords and can't emote their pain the way that animals do.

I believe everyone has a right to their opinion. Your response to her was perfect, it doesn't get any better than that. To the antis, WHO DOES THE KILLING FOR YOU TO EAT? To the veg's, plants are alive, simple as that. That is to you the veg's kill them to eat.

How unprofessional is that to ask that question in front of your co-workers. On top of that, a complete lack of social skills. She obviously wanted an explosive reaction out of you to prove her point that hunters are by nature out of control, violent predators.

You should have asked her how her divorce was going because her husband couldn't stand the stupid things that come out of her mouth another day.

I guess she and her family never uses medicine or has had any surgery.

I've found that the exact same thing works everytime. Telling them up front catches them off guard and they dry up and go away. On one of my ANTI encounters, I happened to have some pics of a Bear I took in Maine, she ran out of the room and will not talk to me till this day[rofl][tasty][up][up]

I try and not eat as much meat from the stores, the reason is the stuff the animals get to eat, the chem's they put in to the meat, I am not a Healthy person but I try very hard to eat healthy food , like venison, bear, duck, wild turkey and other game animals.... Since I'm also on blood thinners I can't be a veg ( ok when I stone I am one .lol... Thats 4 you BHC [rofl][rofl] )to much Vit-K for me and that stuff is bad for someone that has a mech-heart valve like me...

I found out the best reply is "Kill? Oh, God-forbid no, I'm a catch-and-release hunter." Then while they're mulling that over I change the subject to global warming. Anti's love talking about global warming so I let them babble on about that :)
