There are several good choices for crossbows. Talk to 10 different people, you'll likely get at least 7 different answers....call David at Wyvern Creations (603-659-0575). Discuss the subject with him, and he'll point you in the right direction. He's forgotten more about crossbows than most will ever learn.
 
Excalibur is the most basic and reliable. Ten Point are really well built and sturdy. Horton vision was the quitest I shot - small and narrow for tight treestands. I am waiting to shoot the bowtech Strykeforce 380 - brand new, lighter, fast.

As said above, go somewhere and shoot them all. See what feels best. The technology is really good and getting better.
