With these awesome temps and about a weeks worth of winter bow season left I decided to dust off the bow and head out to do some hunting.

I set up on a small ravine with lots of sign and tracts cutting across it, at about 5:30 this young deer came limping up the ravine slowly making its way towards me.
I could see that it was quite lame and decided if it gave me the right shot I would put it down.

It got to about 30 yards in front of me then a fox started with it's mating hollow/yelps, and I guess because it was already lame that put it on edge.

The fox was behind me somewhere and that kept this deer looking towards me for almost 20 minutes. I was figuring it would never turn broadside before it gets dark. Then finally the fox shut up long enough for the deer to turn to head back down where it came from. With a quick MAAA it stopped at 20 yards and I drilled it.
It went about 60 yards and crashed making a Happy Bloody Valentine's Day.

Looks like it’s leg was severely damaged just above the hoof, I wonder if this extremely bad cut was from sharp ice ?

Thanks Guys
You should bring a cottontail call and try and call in th fox
I could have shot that thing so many times over the season, but I let it go since I have no real use for a fox. Now he has a rubbed up tail.
was she limping at all
VERY badly, It was not really using that leg at all.
That whole leg was pretty much just skin and bone with no muscle tone, even the hip bone was sticking out because there was no muscle left covering it.

It was definitely in pain [down]

Eww, looks like she broke it and the sore is from
where its been getting dragged
Nah the leg was not broken, and that was not a sore, it is actually swollen muscle, looked like it was sliced up really bad right at the joint.
I don't know what could have caused something like that but nasty wound at any rate [down]
