A buddy of mine inviteted me to go codfishing with him this Saturday leaving from Point Pleasent. Where does the boat go to catch codfish? He said we'd be on the boad for about 18 hrs. That seems like a long day. How is the fishing this time of the year? Is it a good possibility to be catching fish.

I'd appreciate some input.

Thanks,

most likely they will head north to montauk out of the 18hrs you will most likely be on the move for 10-14hrs (5-7 hours each way), the cod bite has been good up there but as with anytime you go fishing it may be a mad dog bite or a slow pick if you have never been offshore fishing this may not be the best time for you to start, it will be cold and they are calling for it to be rough winds 20-30mph with waves building 5-7ft not a great place to be on your first offshore trip

this is from noaa

Block Island/Montauk. I did it once with my dad... I slept almost the whole way there. Now I know better, and I go to MA for the weekend and we do day trips from there.

Thanks for the replies. I got some more information. Seems their planing on going on the Gambler (the boats name), and heading to the wrecks, and some rock piles, and fihing 150' to 200' depth. Aparently the captain will cancel the trip if the winds are 30mph, but 25 and we are GTG.

good luck trust me there is no difference between 25 and 30 mph winds they both suck and will have a nice chop built up espeically the farther off you get if its a NW, W, or SW or any wind over 15-20 will kick your butt, but if your set on going dress very warm and get a good pair of slickers and deck boot like the Extra tuffs and a set of HH's

Cod fishing this time of year can be fun and productive. Most of the boats still fishing are working the deep water wrecks, These range 10 to 50 miles out. You made the right choice passing on the trip. 4-7 foot seas is no fun.
