I went to pull a stand today at a State park that i hunt, which is deer hunting only. On my way out i see someone bowhunting. I didnt want a confrontation so i continued to my truck. When i got n the truck i wondered if there was a new law about sunday hunting. I dont like being a rat but i also dont want the parks closed down and wildlife poached because some people dont follow the law, so i decided to call the F&G hotline.
No one picked up so i left a message and called a 2nd number. An operator picked up and i explained the situation. He put me on hold and transferred me to another person who said they would take a report on it. After i gave the info, the operator told me that NJ allows sunday bow hunting now. I said that i know that as i also bow hunt. I politely explained that it is for wma's and private property. The operator came back and said he spoke to a park ranger who informed him that this particular state park allows sunday bow.
I then asked to speak to a game warden. The operator started to get annoyed and said...there is no need to talk to a CO, i just explained the law to you.
I politely told him several times that i thought he was wrong and i wanted to talk to a warden.....
F&G Operators response....sir, do you have a F&G digest?
Me....yes, its next to me in my truck
operator....i suggest you read it to familiarize yourself with the sunday hunting laws.
Me...i just did...its on page 26...wma's and private property only.
Operator...sir, i am telling you that sunday hunting is legal at that state park. he gave me another number to call but said that they were closed today and that i could call tomorrow.
I then ended the call. I am very frustrated at the way this was handled. Even if i am wrong, why couldnt they connect me with a warden to verify this?
Makes you wonder how many people break F&G laws and get away with it. Maybe next time ill just look the other way.
