My associate and I just applied for a patent on a new crossbow decocking device that eliminates the need to fire a bolt, dry fire, or uncrank your cocked bow. It fit most crossbows and is an accessory. I'll provide you a link to youtube where you'll be able to see it first hand. We are making the video this week, stay tuned. I hope this will eliminate all of those safety concerns. It's an awesome device, hope you like it!

Sounds great, good luck!! [up] Check your PMs ;)

good luck with it [up]

I never saw unloading as any kind of hassle or safety concern.

When and if I hunt with my crossbow I simply carry a bunt-headed arrow in my quiver. When I'm done hunting for the day I would shoot the blunt-headed arrow into a clear area on the ground to unload my crossbow, then I simply just pull the arrow out of the dirt, knock the mud off the head and stick it back in the quiver.

Takes me all of two seconds to unload the crossbow and head home :D

That is what I was doing, until I was lucky enough to find a rock under like an inch of dirt in a field! I just wait til I get home and fire it in my target now.

Ten point crossbows can be easily decocked without firing...this is not exactly a breakthrough for a properly designed bow where the manufacturer wants you to have that feature.

and if it slips off while trying this, whats the worse thing that can happen? like its a bad thing to have new strings, cables, cams, axles...... put on your bow. and then you get to sight it in all over again too! I'll stick to shooting the block when I get down, but it seems like a good idea.

Pity TenPoint does not share your love for their 'design'. Their owners manual does not recommend the method you seem so comfortable with.
Maybe they aren't aware of their own breakthrough. Here's a quote from their manual:

"The recommended - and the safest - way to unload your crossbow is to fire an arrow into a suitable target or rock-free ground. You should carry a practice arrow in your quiver when hunting and use it for unloading (only if your state permits you to carry a practice arrow—check your regulations first)"

The New Decocker is here. Check out the video on you tube:
It was kind of hard to see in the video however I am very interested could you PM me with more information.
