Yesterday was my first time at the show in 4-5 years. There's definitely room for improvement but I thought this years show was drastically better than what they've had in years past. The deer classic area was magnificent. I thought they did a pretty good job of eliminating some of the riffraff and keeping what was there on the fringes of the floor. There was a decent amount of outdoor vendors. They even had an outdoor liquidation warehouse in the back who had some pretty good deals. This should be a good building block for future years.
I don't understand why all the complaining. People are comparing it to the Harrisburg show. Really? That's like walking into a high school gymnasium and comparing it to MSG. You're talking about one of the biggest shows in the country in Harrisburg. There's no comparison.
People are still complaining that there's not enough outdoor vendors. What do you expect when you only go once every 5-10 years? What vendor in their right mind is going to invest the time and money if no one shows up? The show needs to build and improve and the only way it is going to do that is with support.
I spent $18 to take my family of 4 out for a night and have a good time. We walked around, talked to some good people and most of all my kids got to spend two hours looking at deer mounts, touching fur pelts, petting dogs and wolf hybrids and watching fish swim instead of sitting in front of a tv. I think this year the promoters proved that their head is in the right place and their headed in the right direction. In my mind, they've proven themselves worthy of another chance and I'll go again next year.
For $18, I can't even come close to taking my family out to a movie or dinner!! It's a cheap, fun afternoon/night out and it's a small investment in the future of hunting and fishing in the state of NJ.
